JAL to fly Dreamliner to Bangkok
The Nation

JAL will also strive to further improve customer convenience by expanding its domestic network.

In regards to the airline's international network, new Boeing 787-8 aircraft will be deployed onto flights between Tokyo (Narita) and Sydney as well as between Tokyo(Narita) and Bangkok to improve cost efficiency as well as to provide customers with updated products and services.

JAL currently uses the Boeing 767 and 777 on this route. Their 777 has 31 inches of pitch, 767 has 34 inches of pitch and 787 has 31 inches of pitch, all in Economy. The 777 also has premium economy with 38 inches of pitch.

777 vs 787 discussions can be seen on other web forums that we are not allowed to link to, but it seems that "The new Sky Suite C class seat beats the 787/Old 777 seat hands down."

I don't know if JAL uses the new 777s or the old 777s on this route. I'm not a Oneworld flyer, so I don't really care. I just wanted to post some info since the OP just posts articles that lack some details.

31", especially on long haul, is just an insult to their customers.

It surprises me that these shiny new 787s are being mostly used either by unappealing airlines or treated as cattle wagons.

cattle wagons.

That was partly the point of the 787, efficiency. It can go further on less fuel. It opens up new route possibilities.

I don't see the logic in installing 34" seats in a 777 but 31" in a 787 running the same route. Passengers aren't all short, even in Asia.. If it was up to me, 38" would be the industry minimum.

Oh, I don't see the logic either :) But BKK to NRT is not very far. At least my knees wouldn't touch the seat in front of me like on Air Asia.

Mine would be deep into the seat in front. I wouldn't be popular at all. London to Amsterdam I could suffer, but not 12 hours over night..

Do you normally fly J class?

If I can. Premium economy if I can't. I'd love to be able to sit in the cheap seats, but I can't suffer it for long.

Yeah that 12 hour flight to Narita is crazy boring. It would be nice in J, but I'm always back in Y. Usually in a 747, I'll be standing, for a majority of the flight, in the back of the plane.

It looks like my next trip will be a 787 from DEN to NRT. I'd like to give it a try :)
