PM tells police to exercise restraint in dealing with demonstrators

BANGKOK, 26 August 2013 (NNT)-Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has reiterated to the police to exercise restraint when handling demonstrators and approach them through negotiations rather than forces. The policy was given while Ms. Yingluck was chairing a meeting of the Police Commission and related security units today.

Police Spokesperson Major General Piya Utayo said that at the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed her 3-point policy to the police leaders which include compliance with the legal framework in their operations, use of restraint and negotiations when dealing with demonstrators. Ms. Yingluck also said that security units under other ministries would also comply with the same rules.

The Premier also instructed the police and other relevant agencies to monitor the situation in the Deep South and ensure full welfare benefits for new police forces deployed in the restive region. All units must also take care of the families of soldiers and civilians killed in the violence.

More CCTV cameras and street lights will be installed in the southernmost provinces. Illegal trades and human trafficking activities will come under the police's tightened surveillance.

Of course there could be an ulterior motive behind this comment from Yingluck.

Perchance her brothers foot soldiers are about to encouraged to spread the word and influence the way that the public perceive the current opposition politically and also from assorted social groups to the current amnesty bill and of course the reconciliation farce as well.

The subliminal message being sent to the Red Shirts is to let them know that they will have little or nothing to fear from the police,

it will be interesting to see just how effective her comments may be regarding the opponents of the two aforementioned processes as well as how evenhanded the authorities may be in the event of civil unrest low key or otherwise..

This follows the police (2000 reported) getting their butts kicked by (1000 reported) farmers.Yes negotation may be a good area to work on as well as facing the problem not looking at it over your shoulder while scampering away.

Thaksin sent the army to Tak Bai, people died. Abhisit sent the army into Bangkok, people died. Yingluck is sending the police to break up demonstrations in the south because she can, the police will go. Not an option for Abhisit, the police refused to do their jobs. One thing she should keep in mind, the precedent has been set, anybody dies, she can be charged with murder.

Not if perpetrators cannot be identified as police or military. People are apparently being shot right now at the south rubber protest by men not in uniform, but carrying m16 rifles...

Replying to PM Yingluck tells police to exercise restraint in dealing with demonstrators

This sounds like an admission that the demonstrators, which are not PTP/Redshirts are being roughly treated, and it's now become pretty obvious, even to her!

Can't have anything obvious upsetting the proposed Amnesty, and illegal white wash of Big Brother can we?

The reds will take some moving from power now. If only the yellow understood this as long as yingluch and her brother are at the helm, the country will remain red.

And that is a good thing.

The Reds are not in power, unless you count cannon fodder?

The police don't follow the orders of the PM. It's a recommendation. The PM has zero control over the domestic military branch known as the Royal Thai Police. There is already some other financially entrenched elitist that orders them around.

Not based on recent performances.Or are you referring to her brother?

Most certainly the Police didn't do their job for Abhisit, Bangkok 2010 was like the Police Annual Social Club Outing!

Next you will be telling us: Yingluck has no control over her Governments proposed Amnesty and a change of Constitution to absolve her Brother of all blame for his Criminal Convictions, which he is determined to never serve his time in Jail.

Oh hang on, I forgot, big Brother said, she is only his Clone, and Skype's the Cabinet meetings to make sure they all understand his orders, there are no recommendations from him only orders!
