I heard that the great savan vegas casino staff are no longer providing assistance to obtain visas from the thai embassy in Savannakhet.

Can anyone verify this and know if they will be back in business in the near future?

Where do you hear stuff like this.

They emailed me twice 10 days ago about their visa runs, where as my question to them was not related to their visa runs but staying at their hotel. All they could think about in answering me was their visa service, not whether a Lao girlfriend could stay there with me. That took a second email.

So two weeks ago they were still offering their service. Go online with them and make an enquiry.

There was a post the other day that they still handle it but the person applying has to make a short appearance at the consulate when application is made.

This is part of the email from Savan Vegas regarding a booking for a visa run

"And after you arrival to Savan Vegas and complete the application form then at 10:00 am you have to go to Thai consulate with us."

So I am assuming they take you to the consulate in their mini-bus as part of the service. I have used this service in the past and have been very happy with it, As for price, 2,800 baht for two nights in a decent hotel with all meals and transfers included seems quite reasonable.

As others have said, why would anyone use their service and their fees when its easy enough to do it on your own?! I suppose there was an ease factor before when someone didn't have to make an appearance at the Consulate, but certainly now that that is a requirement ... people are better off just doing it on their own? The Casino cannot guarantee the visa, so why pay the fee?

Savan Vegas – What you get for 2,800 baht

Transport from Mukdahan side of the bridge to the Savan Vegas hotel (and return)

2 nights accommodation in a 3-4 star hotel

3 buffet meals per day (for 2 people) for duration of stay

Transport to and from the consulate for visa application (not required on my last visit)

Passport and visa returned to you at the hotel (no need to visit consulate again)

Vouchers for free play in casino and for massage

Can you really do it cheaper (for same quality accommodation and including meals) on your own?

I think you can do it better, but not cheaper. The Savann is not a 3 or 4 star hotel by any means, I've stayed in their suites and they are 2 or 3 star at best. There are nicer hotels in Savannakhet (the Daosavanh is much nicer, although you are correct .... its $60 USD a night). The food at the Savann is also, IMO, crap. Its typical cheap casino buffet food. I rather go into town and pay for better food.

You have to now visit the Consulate even using the Savann's package, so the one "plus" of using their service is now gone. And really its not a big hassle to do it on your own and the cost difference is up to where a person wants to stay and what they expect in a hotel.

As far as the Casino ... it is what it is. I've worked in the casino industry and the Savann certainly isn't 3 or 4 stars. Saying that, I still go and play there ... my wife and I just prefer better hotel service.
