Does Google Find You in Thailand

Featured Replies

Take the Google Thailand Test by searching Google with the search term:

"Your Real Name", Thailand

Put your real name in quotes to avoid finding people who share either of your names.

Web pages and photos count, facebook pages do not.

And you get bonus points for images, double bonus points if you'd previously never seen the photo.

It might sound like a naive question,

The question never occurred to me while I was in Thailand and I am not there to test it now, even if I was there I would not know how to test it.

(I guess I could do a Google search in the US save the results, and do the identical search in Thailand and compare the results)

But the question is, aside from restricted subjects such as sex or politics, are Google search results different in Thailand than the US or other parts of the world?

Nothing, and I'm happy about that.

Scary, I was on a couple of sites, with avatar, in addition to TV as Bpuumike.

What happens when the op types in his name + narcissist?

It returns a picture of a virtual mirror and adverts for long stem roses and gift wrapped chocolates.

These were the results when I entered the details as in the OP in google. Nothing about me for some reason.

https://www.google.co.th/search?q=%22+your+real+name+%22+thailand&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr&ei=hNY1UufiIpHSrQe984CwCg

Now without joking, it's scary.

I got 3 pages on google with my telephone number and address details. And the most scary was that I was listed on social network sites which I've never heard about.

Also a private message I had sent to some Thai company through Facebook was included in the results.

Social network sites are definitely the way to go facepalm.gif

NSA here I come.

Yes! Google follows you everywhere,it's the original Big Brother (and can only get more intrusive). I'm truly glad I have spent my life being a good boy, with no Criminal Record,or Black List of any sort, otherwise I would be a worried man!

Scary it most certainly is,privacy is a thing of the past!

It's invasion of privacy. And, therefore, very much against the law.

THEY are so clever they allow people to willingly share their personal data. Free for everyone to see.

I try to resist by holding on to my stupid phone.thumbsup.gif

Numerous entries and images for both Thailand and where I came from.

So what is the Prize and where do I collect?

Phew, that's a relief, my middle name isn't Douglas and I wasn't born in Arizona.

It's a years supply of Pringles (sour cream and onion) the vouchers can be found in a plastic bag in the toilet cistern of cubicle 3, first PTT Station Lop Buri to Chachong Saew road.

You haven't seen me, right ;)

Ahaaaa! I can finally scratch Douglas of the list.....coffee1.gifwhistling.gif

[edit] just checked, I'm clean.

I found lots of chaps with my same name, none particularly close. My LinkedIn page and several contacts came up. There was a bloke of the same name on facebook who could be the image of Streetcowboy, but that would be just ridiculous.

I was surprised Ray French didn't come up with any close matches; Allan Rooney did, and "Hyoomiliayashun" takes you straight to the 2011 Superleague Leaders' Shield decider live from the Royal Oak

You can run but you cannot hide ! in todays world.

I found so much...I'm scared blink.png

typed in my TV user name found all kinds of stuff, like all my posts on TV w00t.gif

that to much info on the net, guess I'll quit posting on TV wink.png

I got 19 mentions across another forum and also three mentions on different directors sites.

The last three are strange really as I closed my companies back in 2004.

No photos I am afraid.

My first 'true' hit (5th on Google) is in a Thai government document, scary sad.png

My first real hit was a very long time ago, when I was just a slip of a girl and this was all fields.

It was a computer game for the Mac, and for a brief moment in time (I'm a geologist, so that could actually be a long time) I had the second highest score in the world.

Hang on.... I'll check my current status.... S'ok, I'm gone.
