webfact
Bangkok braces for floods as Chao Phraya River risesBy English NewsBANGKOK, Sept 25 – Residents in 27 communities in 13 Bangkok districts have been warned to be on alert for flooding as the Chao Phraya River is rising.Sanya Chinimit, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) deputy permanent secretary, said flooding has started affecting people residing outside the BMA’s anti-flood dykes.Water level in the Chao Phraya River rose to 1.72 metres yesterday morning while the Irrigation Department released water from dams at 2,400 cubic metres per second and rain has yet to stop, he said. All districts on both sides of the Chao Phraya River were ordered to stay on alert until early next month and told people to move their belongings to higher ground, and check the water level daily.Mr Sanya said the BMA has prepared five million sandbags to prevent overflowing water and floods in areas where construction of embankments is not yet finished. The remaining section is about 85 metres long. (MCOT online news)-- TNA 2013-09-

Popular Post CanInBKK
I haven't been tracking this years floodings upcountry but isn't this a good sign that water is being released into the river to flow out to the sea? If I remember correctly the flood of 2 years ago was caused by allowing enormous amounts of water to be pent up behind dams until the dams could no longer hold and it was the sudden release of water that caused the flooding in Bangkok. If the rain doesn't get worse upcountry shouldn't Bangkok be "safe" from flooding?

Popular Post Local Drunk
Neighborhood still hasn't recovered from the flood two years ago. There was no warning until it happened. We went off to higher ground for 2 months. We were lucky; we could afford to leave. I really hope it doesn't happen again.

But as long as it is not on the scale of 2011 i should be safe. But the good thing is they are not trying to hold it up this time.
Popular Post klubex99
Here is the proof that the Thai government only ever seems to open its mouth to tell lies to the people. I can not think of how resilient they are to losing face and bringing tremendous amounts of shame onto themselves. They never seem to have any problems with losing face. Almost every comment on the flood potential have been pure 100% bullshit and they knew it all along, the thing is... so did everyone. Do the people realize how dangerous this government is to Thailand?? Edited September 25, 2013 by klubex99
Hoopidy He Ho
Residents in 27 communities in 13 Bangkok districts have been warned to be on alert for flooding as the Chao Phraya River is rising. Good to see them list them. I recently moved to See Kan, close to Don Muang airport and I would be interested in just how likely it is, and from what source (canal name etc. so I can check it out with my own eyes). Popular Post fakename
There is no flooding, it is all made up. The government said there would be no flooding, so I believe them. They do not lie, but sometimes they tell a little fib. As long as the water is not as high as 2011, then there is no problem, except for the people that are affected!

Well the Airport is quite safe. They built reinforced poured cement walls that are buried at least two meters deep and are roughly the same above ground. The walls actually circumvent the whole Air Force base as well. There were massive pumping stations installed as well. It was all done rather quickly and with the clear purpose of keeping the airports (military and civilian) from flooding again.

Popular Post Woodsie888
anybody have any links to flood maps/maps showing movement of the water? I don't have maps or a link, but I did just take a drive up to Nakhon Nayok and Khun Dan Dam this morning. The Dam is almost it's maximum capacity of 224 Million Cubic Metres of water. A lot of the farm land in the immediate area and almost down to the 305 Highway, has been flooded intentionally by the look of it. When driving home, I saw many emergency vehicles heading North East with boats loaded etc. Khlong Rangsit is quite high in places, but totally clogged with water hyacinth. I'll attach a couple of photos if my skills allow! The first two photos were taken 27th July and the water was so low I thought could rain until November without problem. The dam is 93 metres tall. I hope this helps a little. It amazes me that the Officials keep informing us of the level of the Bhumibol & Sirikit Dams when the problem Dams causing concern are much closer to BKK.
