Best portable AV for Windows?

Featured Replies

In past I have used Dr Web CureIt.... not used it for a few years. Is it still one of the better ones - anyone know?

I need to run an AV scan/clean by USB stick on a XP PC that is not connected to Internet.

Not a lot of choice for portable av, not counting hacks. Suggest ClamWin, available in portableApps format from http://portableapps.com/apps/security/clamwin_portable

Note you must run it first on a machine with internet connection to download the signature database. and also to update said database later. Other than that it's fully portable.

For a computer that is unable to boot into windows, I am still partial to the Dr Webb boot CD, but the Tywais link shows 3 more that are probably just as good. As a linux user, I am partial to Bitdefender as it make what I consider a very good antivirus for unices, which I can use when booting into my linux USB to clean up a windows pc. I gave up on Clam AV both for linux and windows a few years ago.

If you can boot into windows, may I suggest The Emsisoft Free Emergency Kit. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/

Thanks for the ideas guys. I reverted to my old favorite Dr Web CureIt latest download (now 128MB vs a much smaller 14MB from my last download 3 yrs ago). A portable exe file successfully cleaned an infected PC we had today who's o/s and patches are all obsolote as its not on a network. So this is still an option as well. Google search doesn't seem to throw it up as an option much so I was concerned it was still a viable choice. Seems to be ok tho.
