Public Health Min urges elderly to be more cautious during flood

BANGKOK, 28 September 2013 (NNT) – The Public Health Ministry has proposed precautionary measures to cope with flood situation, urging the elderly to be more cautious when dealing with water.

According to Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong, the current flood situations in many provinces seem to be deteriorating as the ministry is sending out mobile health units to aid residents in the inundated areas.

The minister also warned them of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, leptospirosis, hand-foot- and mouth-disease, and dengue fever. He urged all elderly in the flood-hit areas to take precautionary measures by preparing clean water and food, flashlights and batteries, dry clothes, plastic bags, medicines, hearing aid, a respirator or an oxygen tank, and a whistle in case of emergency.

The minister went on to say that those living in the inundated areas should seal all trash bags before disposing them and if possible, he suggests everyone wraps themselves up with bags to avoid direct contact with the water.
