Why Thais cover their heads with plastic bag instead of carrying umbrella?

Featured Replies

I guess making plastic bags which can be recycled and remade into other umbrella bags is a whole lot better than you me and everyones grandma needing hip operations from all the water splashed at the entrance of the malls here.. Most big malls here have slippery enough floors as is.

Thanks to all for the information.

I stand corrected.

I did not know that new plastic bags degraded faster than paper and that burning them is no longer toxic.

I still hate the smell when people in my village burn them'

I still think they make an otherwise very beautiful country look very trashy!

Willy, you could at least use a photo of your village if there is one showing such litter, and not a picture

from some previous thread on litter in Bankok.

Some interesting reading for you and other anti-plastic bag crusaders.

Phuke..

Due to my encouragement (complaining) the people in my little village of 17 houses now pick up their garbage, plastic and otherwise Unfortunately, they still burn it all. But in consideration for me, they only burn when I am not in the village now.

They are not bad people.

In their defense, there is no garbage pick up service and no such thing as a dumpster available here like there is in many of the larger villages.

Maybe I can take a photo of a pile ready to burn if that makes you happier!

Oh, and neither link you posted would open for me.

I tried both a couple of times. I did try!
