Freelance teaching

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have made the decision to be a part time teacher on a freelance basis while staying a year long in Thailand with my girlfriend. I have done my research into this but there are still some things I am still in the dark with. Can you share your freelancing experience?

- Do you teach 1, 2 or 3 hours per session?

- How many students do you teach per session?

- how many sessions per week? / how many hours per week?

- Do you do the teaching at your own place or at the student's place, or at a neutral place like a coffeeshop or university library?

- Do u always need a whiteboard, even when teaching conversational English?

I already have a few students wanting me to teach them. Just need to figure out a few things out before meeting them, to make the best of my first time teaching.

Thanks in advance guys.

A lot depends on what your goal is (or what the parents' goal is). Are you teaching children? If so, what ages?

For children I do not like to teach them over an hour (occasionally 1 1/2 hours). If it is a structured academic type of situation, then much of an hour can get tedious for kids.

For adults 2 hour sessions are fine.

I always like to have a whiteboard and I like to have it in the same place. If your place is set up for teaching fine, if not then their home if it is suitable.
