Best Condo for Internet Service

Thank you in advance to any suggestion based on experience regarding the following:

For my work, the main priority is to have reliable and fast internet connection. For this reason, I wonder if someone could maybe suggest a condo in Bangkok that has the absolutely best internet service with it's internet service provider (True / 3BB ....). This would include being the most reliable and having the fastest connection. And of course, reliable electricity.

As I understand, True service in an area that uses a true satelite is best. Still, of course, this doesn't go far if the electricity in the condo isn't stable as well.

My job includes scheduled appointments with the usage of Skype video conferencing and I am on 8-12 hours a day. The people I serve expect reliable appointment times and high quality service with video and audio.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

As such, there are no 'best condos for internet' (at least not that I'm aware of anyways).

Typically, condos that provide internet to their tenants via their internal LAN are plagued with drop-outs,

and usually they end up blocking certain ports esp. torrent ports.

What I'd suggest is finding a place, that lets you apply for an internet connection directly from the service provider i.e. True/3bb or similar.

Such type of condos are aplenty, Lumpini / DCondo etc. etc.

Usually the condo owner who's leasing the room to you, will apply for the internet connection in his/her name, and you pay the bill at the end of the month.

I believe you're mis-informed about 'satellites' , 'stability of electricity' & the functions of an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

True / 3bb/ TOT (the ISP) provide internet services on various "telecom standards" to you (the end-user).

The most common telecom standard today is DSL (Digital Subscriber Line). This basically provides internet services over a telephone line.

This is what most condominiums are using today.

A satellite is a communications device that is put into orbit above the Earth, and has little to do with the above, and/or the stability of electricity in a condominium.

That being said, the stability of electricity in a condominium does affect networking devices, such a router/switch, and spikes/surges can cause these devices to malfunction or break down completely.

The second telecom standard that is available today is DOC-SIS, which allows internet access/data transfer over a cable-tv network (CATV).

Basically, if you subscribe for a cable TV package from True, you have an option of getting internet access with it (depending on where you live in Bangkok).

In this case, yes, it's likely that the True satellite relaying / transmitting the cable TV signal may affect your internet quality.

Adverse weather conditions are probable causes.

The above also has nothing to do with the electricity in a condominium.

DOC-SIS is not available in all areas in Bangkok, so best to check with True, specifically which condos/areas are offering it.

There are other telecom standards such as 3G / 4G/LTE that are geared more towards mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, but best to leave those out for now.

Hope this helps.

For pretty obvious reasons, no one could possibly tell you which is the best condo for internet and, as you've been told, using a condo's communal Wi-Fi is fraught with pitfalls.

If you want to set up your own private connection - best option - then be aware that the quality of the DSL internet connection you receive is dependent upon the same well-known factors - line quality, distance from the exchange yadda-yadda - as in any other country.

DOCSIS is a bit more reliable if the reports by TV forum members are anything to go by but if you need bombproof international speeds, you'll be limited (severely) by the country's international gateway.

In summary, if you need mission-critical internet that absolutely, positively HAS to be up and running all the time, you can apply for True's business services but expect to pay a lot of money for it.

It goes without saying that using the condo building's internal wifi network would hardly be adequate. I take the OP's question to be for a building that permits more than one provider of internet services to open accounts with building residents. The best buildings would have access to the fastest services offered by more than one provider. For instance, my building only permits TOTELEC to provide service in the building. The fastest service that TOTELEC offers in this building is the 7Mb service, although I believe that TOTELEC has faster products available in other locations. So, even without considering the low quality wifi service offered by the building itself, my building would not be a good candidate for the OP to consider.

This and only this.

If you need a reliable connection, you need to find a condo / apartment that will allow you to bring in your own dedicated line from True / TOT / 3BB. At my building, the management charged 2000 baht to run a new landline into my apartment and I pay TOT something like 800 THB a month for a VERY reliable 10up/1down connection (though speeds dip a little during the day, but nothing to prevent from Skype / streaming video).

I live in an old apartment building, not too far from Sukhumvit Road (near Rama 4). I got True installed and it is working perfectly fine for the last three months or so. And it is not that expensive either, at around THB640/month including taxes. The installation was free, but you do sign a one-year contract and if you want to quit the contract before the year ends there is some charge involved. I am not sure how much.

I am on 7-10 hours a day. Though I don't use skype, I am required to send and receive files of up to 10MB and it works fine. I an supposed to get 10down/1up speeds, but it does vary through the day.
