Hi,

a few days ago one of our members were writing about Thai Government Health Insurance. If I'm right it was about a first check up at the doctor's for 600 Baht and registration at your hospital and a yearly fee of 2200 Baht.

Does anybody try this already and got experience in the procedure?

Better to have this Health Insurance than nothing!

So far Thai Health insurance was limited to Thai-Nationals.

Some time ago, on occasion a Farang presenting his "yellow-house-book" was admitted to this Thai-Health-Scheme. Were admitted "by error" and their Thai-Health-Card will not be honored by hospitals.

Cheers.

State health insurance for uninsured foreigners

Meanwhile, the free hospital treatment of foreigners (30 THB scheme) living permanently in Thailand has been cancelled At first, no new hospital cards were issued to foreigners, later around mid-September 2013, also the foreigners who were already in possession of this card, were denied free treatment.

I would like to point out that this information is based on Banglamung conditions and that it is quite conceivable that this is handled differently across the country.

With the expiry of the free hospital treatment, however, a new low-cost health insurance for protection of permanently in Thailand residing foreigners was created.

This new cheap, state health insurance can be obtained at the local state hospital of your residence. The yearly premium amounts to 2200 THB. Additionally, a preliminary investigation is obligatory and costs 600 THB. In addition to the measurement of weight, height and blood pressure, a blood and urine lab test and X -raying of the chest will be performed. For children, this investigation is not required. The yearly premium for a child is 365 THB.

There are no restrictions regarding the age of entry or on pre-existing medical conditions. Only alcohol and drug abuse, as well as syphilis or tuberculosis will lead to rejection.

The permanent residence in Thailand has to be demonstrated. This can be done giving proof of marriage with a Thai partner and then over inscription in her/his blue house book or one’s own yellow house book.

At last some accurate information. Except they seem not to be enforcing the yellow book and marriage was never necescary. What they seem to want to see is that you have lived here more than a few months but that is not official. What I do know is the scheme exists and is easily obtained at the hospitals that know about it. Do not however drink the night before you go.

Best to keep things in the thread affordable health insurance in the Medical forum.

Fine. Have everything required. Problem is: At hospitals outside of Bangkok, no one will know anything about it. Upon trying to enlist, they will look at the Farang and have not the slightest clue what this crazy Farang is talking about.

What is needed is a website, or some official publication that can be printed out and be held in front of the nose of the hospital-administrator. Everything else will be an exercise in futility.

Cheers.
