Can an American get a visa on arrival at a Vietnam land border? Planning to go from Mukdahan over to Danang.

I'm assuming not. Is there a way to get a visa without having to go all the way to Bangkok from Ubon?

I always get mine in Khon Kaen where there is a very imposing new Vietnam consulate building.

I'd drive up to Mukdahan, stay the night in the Ploy Palace where accommodation is superior at a reasonable rate then cross over the next morning.

It take it you know there is not a lot to see in Danang apart from a large windswept beach?

How long does it take you to get one in Khon Kaen? That might be an option but out of the way for me. It would make more sense to get one in Savannakhet since I'm going through there.

As I always fly to Vietnam, I get mine in Khon Kaen. The longest wait I have had is 15 minutes.

That's about how long they normally take Mike. It's always always been easy as the office is so quite.

Ubon is a fair drive away so the OP may be better off with his plan.
