Don't know who the guy is but its a very elegant letter, leaving Yingluck a way out of the scheme without losing face. Actually she'd be gaining a lot a face if she'd follow his advice. The only thing is that big brother won't be agreeing on this.

the letter quotes 425billion baht but only 245bill paid to farmers... This is the figure given to moodys and the world bank...hmmmm. Lots of accounting expenses here unnacounted for

MR Pridiyathorn Devakula is an erudite and wise man. The type that unfortunately Yingluck doesn't have in her cabinet.

As to who he is, read and learn : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pridiyathorn_Devakula

cannot imagine the noise that would make.

from your wiki:

Corruption investigations into Thaksin Shinawatra. Pridiyathorn sparked controversity in his dealings with Jaruvan Maintaka of the junta-appointed Assets Examination Committee. Jaruvan accused Thaksin's wife of inappropriately buying a plot of land from the Financial Institutions Development Fund (FIDF) while Pridiyathorn was FIDF Chairman. Pridiyathorn guaranteed that the purchase was legal and refused to file charges, claiming that the FIDF was not a damaged party. Jaruvan then claimed that Pridiyathorn violated the law by sitting on the boards of more than three state enterprises. Pridiyathorn countered by claiming that Jaruvan was trying to destroy his reputation.

and

Wealth

Despite working in the civil service for over 25 years, Pridiyathorn is tremendously wealthy. Disclosures to the National Counter Corruption Commission revealed that 30 days after leaving his Cabinet position in March 2007, Pridiyathorn had 730 million baht in assets, a slight drop from 754 million baht when he took office in October 2006. His wife Praphaphan has a net worth of 283 million baht, while his daughter Pudjeep has 7 million baht.

I remember well the man who lives far away stating clearly it would take at least 4 years before this scheme would turn a profit , hey he was dead right, so far anyway.

Is anybody connecting the dots here?

Yingluck has gained control of the rice in Thailand with her scheme so she can barter with the Chinese for the high speed train.

She is already talking about a similar system for the rubber. She wants to barter both rice and rubber to China.

To what value? Rubber is one thing. You think that China doesn't produce 95% of its own rice and 100% on a good year?

"It estimated that more than 10 per cent of mainland farmland was polluted and that about 12 million tonnes of grain was contaminated by heavy metals every year"

Producing is one thing; producing something edible is another. There are many stories on this subject.

Doesn't really matter

China has a strategic emergency surplus on hand to handle famines which if I remember out weighs Thailand's entire export by 3 times anyway.

The clever thing is to sell rice to countries that like to eat it but can't grow it. That way you get a nice price for it.

Selling rice to China. Coal and Newcastle comes to mind. This is a non story. 200k tonnes doesn't even touch the sides. The weevils and mould have taken more out of the system.

He was formerly Governor of the Bank of Thailand and then Minister of Finance in the military controlled government after the 2006 coup.He resigned after the junta gave special treatment to his long standing rival, Sondhi Limthongkul.Despite working as a low paid civil servant all his life, he is reportedly worth Bt 800 million. His wife has a net worth of Bt 300 million. It is not clear how a relatively low paid senior bureaucrat has amassed this huge wealth.
