BANGKOK: -- A bus conductor has reportedly been shot in leg by a pen gun, which might have been discharged in accident by one of the students who boarded the bus, police said.

Pathumthani police was initially alerted to investigate a shooting at a bus stop in Mueang district, Pathumtani province.

At the scene, the officers encountered Mr. Anucha Kanyayim, a staff on Bus No. 337 route which runs from Pathumtani to Bang Bua Tong, who told them he was shot in his leg.

An operation was arranged to remove the bullet, which was revealed by an X-Ray scan to have stuck inside the victim’s leg.

Mr. Anucha said he was shot while the bus was about to park at the bus stop. He added that he noticed a group of students fleeing the bus after the incident.

Police suspected that the group of students unintentionally discharged one of their pen guns at Mr. Anucha, and said that they will search for the suspects for further investigation.

Due to bitter rivalries between different polytechnic colleges, many of their students travel armed with weapons such as knives, pen guns, and even homemade explosives in some cases.

It is a welcoming thought that here in thailand shootings are not as prevalent as in the USA , probably arising from the vast number of guns in circulation in the USA

Many of us are saddened by the continued killings on busses and minibusses by the drivers who are out of control, maybe a few more USA guns on the busses might make the drivers think a little

It would be much nicer to hear minibus bus driver shot by American who saved all the passengers from almost certain death

Maybe I am reading too much into this, but...doesn't that sound kind of "casual"? "Oh yeah...some students accidentally discharged their pen guns...." as if all students are having this type of sh1t as part of their uniform.

The bus- man is lucky, not to have lost an eye....

Crazy place..crazy kids and a f%£@d education system.....what do the authorities expect.....or should it be..what do the authorities care!

It is no use for schools to try to undo what the parents fail to do from birth. Sick lazy deranged parents in many cases, parents need to go to school to learn how to bring up children.

It starts AT HOME.. the school can add to later with further education on the subject.

Would also question some teachers not knowing as they will be parents also.

LOL, so that's the issue - parents don't care.

Sadly that's true but the schools care even less.

Quite the contrary, while mass shootings may not be as prevalent...

A new Thai soapie drama began on the popular Channel 3 last night (the 6.30 slot, so that children can watch).

In the first 10 minutes, fifteen people were shot dead, including a number of policemen, three women who had just given birth along with their babies, and all along the impression was given that waving guns around was a quite acceptable method of getting what you want.

I know you have to be careful trying to link what happens on-screen with what happens in real life, but even so.....

I could not agree more. I am constantly sickened by things I see in Thai soaps, such as young men raping the girl of their dreams who then falls in love with him (seen this story line on more than one occasion) and of course an amazing level of violence (mostly using blurred out guns). I would love to meet one of the sensors to ask what they are doing. The country is so f%$& up, from top to bottom.

Thailand currently number 3 in the world for gun related deaths but closing in on Columbia in second place. According to these stats an average of 55 people are killed with guns in Thailand every day. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-crime-murders-with-firearms

Yeah trust the "Yanks" to save the day, all guns blazing will cure all.

Just like the recent shooting in California of a 13 year old by Police for carrying a replica!!

We don't need a "shoot first" ask questions later mentality over here.. just education & an overhauled justice system!

Education is a follow up from good upbringing-love-parental care.

It’s a sad day when children carry guns to school, what do the parents say when they see the kids packing the school bag books, pens, calculator, homework oh and I almost forgot my gun my new eraser mk3. What sort of country would tolerate behaviour like that from children.

What is a pen-gun?

What is wrong with Thai society the people feel the need to carry them?

It's exactly what it sounds like Lew unfortunately,it's a one shot firearm that looks just like a pen,

the one I had fired at me in Ireland about 10 years ago was a .22 caliber, but nowadays you can get them in .410 shotgun cartridge,

.38 caliber etc there's a bunch of images of them on the net, they go from everything from crude(probably made in the school technical shop)to fairly sophisticated,

lovely world we're living in hey? blink.png

What and harass the poor little children to the point of causing untold trauma for them in later life.
