3 Slow Loris on Bangla today

I walked down Bangla today around 11am on the way to Immigration. There were 3 touts with slow Loris in broad daylight. It seems that the "crackdown" is not working.

Does this really surprise anyone who knows how the 'system' works here. There is no crackdown, it's all just lip service for public relations. Oh - and keep on collecting protection money.

I for one am stunned! Not only did the Police Commander say they had been removed, but too the venerable Alan Morrison!

If Alan Morrison says it, then it must be true..he only talks facts [facts in his mind anyway] w00t.gif

The only way to get these animal touts removed is to go and stick a camera right in their face and upload the photos to Youtube or social media web-sites.

You will not last long doing that Simon.

They touts may have been out earlier than usual because the new Region 8 General was out walking with his entourage last night, looking for loris and sex show touts. No surprise, they didn't find any.

Slightly off topic, but I was at the beach volleyball tournament today and a couple of french people were telling some US guys that live in Japan about the ping pong and dart shows still available for all punters. The French guy said the ping pong shows with darts shooting baloons were at " a lot of places in Patong".

So back to the thead theme, I'm sure there was a loris spotting today.

There are three ways to life the life of ours.

One is to yell "Well, nothing is going to be changed"

Second is "I'm going to do the difference"

Third one "You'll die doing that"

We have seen all the variants on this thread.

Which of these personalities will be happy when they die?

The gibbons are still there also. In lesser numbers. But they're there.

Maybe we could form a group of camera toting Twitter/Facebook vigilantes. Surprise w00t.gif

A few people are doing this already.

As a continuation of my last post,(EDIT, actually the post is just below this one) if anyone wants to get the most mileage out of their loris pictures, send them to me. (Unless your name is Rihanna, then please instagram it to your fans.)

I disagree - it is that type of attitude that has allowed so many problems on this island to exist. You need to have the guts to face these problems head-on.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't have time anymore to ignore these problems and let others deal with them - because others don't deal with them

Simon

Ok, I see my post was taken way out of context by both of you. I would think both of you know me better than that. Allow me to clarify.

The reason I say "You won't last long doing that" is because I do it, and have done it several times, and I have been descended upon by some very unsavory people who made it very clear to me that I was to stop what I was doing immediately, and these people did not have loris's in their hands. I have even been interviewed by investigators of international wildlife conservation groups. I will continue to photograph them,as I know a lot of people do, although now I do it with a bit more covertness. I will and continue to pass the photo's along with time and location to different Thai authorities, NGO's, and media. I definitely am not one of those defeatists you speak of. I only state the reality we live in here. A reality where local police are paid to ignore the problem, and volunteers, even police volunteers, are threatened by the people behind the loris's. We must learn to operate within the perimeters we are given, and that means NOT shoving a camera into the faces of the touts, as they are not alone on the street. Trust me on this.

And one more thing Simon, I could say the exact thing about you with regards to your quitting the TVP with the reasons you have stated on Thaivisa. With this renewed vigor you speak of, " You need to have the guts to face these problems head-on... but I don't have time anymore to ignore these problems and let others deal with them - because others don't deal with them" will you be re-joining the TPV's, or perhaps one of the NGO's doing great work here?
