webfact Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 THB 20,000 Reward for Nephew-In-LawBy Khaosod OnloneBANGKOK: -- A 67-year-old woman in Ayudhaya province announced plans to reward THB 20,000 to anyone who can bring to the arrest of her nephew, after he allegedly stole valuable items worth more than THB 2 million from her safety box.Ms. Maliyam Janpetch, 67, told the police that she had kept many items, such as gold ornaments, diamond rings and some cash inside the safety box. However, she never managed to use the pass code, as she feared she might have forgotten it. She then used the regular key and kept it underneath her pillow on her bed.Police believed that the thief is one of the family members, and had asked to retrieve the fingerprints. But while at the scene, Mr. Rachet Loykate, 36, Ms. Maliyam’s nephew-in-law, suddenly ran off from the scene. His suspicious reaction then led police to assume he is the accused, though no charges were pressed against the man as there is no clear evidence to prove his wrongdoing. However, it appears that Ms. Maliyam is convinced that her nephew is the accused, and announced a THB 20,000 reward for anyone who can lead to the capture of the man.Source: http://www.khaosod.co.th/en/view_newsonline.php?newsid=TVRNNE16TXdNalkzTmc9PQ==-- KHAOSOD English 2013-11-02 1

Popular Post NongKhaiKid Posted November 2, 2013 Popular Post Posted November 2, 2013 It certainly reads that way especially if you add in his reaction made the BIB assume he's the accused ! Pity they were not as fast on their feet as their speed of deduction ... 3
siampolee Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Being as the lad looks to be a Muslim he may well have a somewhat biased view of the police and their attitude to Muslims. The line below might well apply to this ladies family. ''God gave us our relatives, thank god we can choose our friends.''

Pib Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Happy families, as someone said a few days ago Thai will not steal from family. And that's true as long as the family watches which makes for a lot of sleepless nights for some families. 2
stubuzz Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Lock up your valuables and put the key under your pillow...... A safety deposit box in a bank costs about 500bt a year. I know where my valuables are. 1

Misterwhisper Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 What's a "nephew-in-law"? The son of her husband's brother? Never heard that term. Why is he not simply her nephew?. 1

CHANGOVER Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Par for the course unfortunately especially in village life. My wife's niece who was brought up by mother in law, got pregnant at 14 stole all the sinsod gold I gave my mother & father in law and took off with her b/f who was into yaba.. She returned 9 months later, was forgiven by M-i-L et al, dumped the bairn on her, took a car and disappeared again, pregnant by a new b/f. Unbelievably she returned and expected to be forgiven again. Luckily they listened to reason an got rid of her! Her mother is a really nice lady and doesn't deserve a piece of shit like her but she is buying her a house for when she 'gets better'!

One of the richest men in our village has a house that hasn't been painted for many years and his fences are rotting away or have fallen down. I asked him at a merit do we went to why he doesn't make his house look nice and he said he doesn't want to waste money on paint and anyway, thieves will think he is worth robbing if it looks like he has any money ! 3

Yup we met a guy who had recently sold about 10 million Baht worth of land who lived in a complete dump. All the people in the village were asking him to clean up his place and paint, etc. He said the same thing "if I did that then I would be robbed in no time." When I lived in a small village in Spain many of the locals also believed the same thing thing would happen to them.

IBoldnewguy Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 What's a "nephew-in-law"? The son of her husband's brother? Never heard that term. Why is he not simply her nephew?. Is there a niece? If not, maybe live in BF - tell neighbors "nephew-in-law." Hummmmm...... need more
IBoldnewguy Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 2,million bth of jewellery...and living in a dump.i dont get it....a lick of paint surely.im not trying to be cruel but......... Gold in safe worth more than paint on walls. Sort of like a bird in hand worth more than bird in the bush..... or was it.... a hand in bush worth more than a bunch of chirping birds. It's sort of uplifting to read story of Thai Lady being scammed.... good thing she didn't live in high rise or story might have been about "nephew-in-law" testing her flying abilities after safe found empty. Need more....

MMarlow Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What's a "nephew-in-law"? The son of her husband's brother? Never heard that term. Why is he not simply her nephew?. Because he's not her nephew. Would her husband's brother become her brother also, or her brother-in-law?

Uplifting? This lady has done something to you to that makes her misfortune cause you so much elation? 1
Emdog Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Some may notice that this looks like a trad Thai house made of WOOD. A bit of varnish, but don't go covering with paint! Much cooler than the concrete boxes most of us probably live in. And this was not a scam, it was a robbery. 2
