30 day stamp land crossing in Ranong?

Recommended Posts

if this is true TOT will have to reassess their tourist figures in a downwards manner

each border crossing into Thailand counts as one tourist entering

when this 15 day only law was introduced , 30 day border runners were adding x1 extra tourist every month because they had to do x2 runs instead of x1

now these runners are back to doing only x1 run instead of x2 tourist numbers will tumble

heads will roll.....

So far it appears to be only for the 7 countries mentioned. I suspect these because they perhaps have less serial border runners in immigrations records than some other countries.

I have found no official info about it on immigration or MFA websites.

Conversely, half as many tourists leave the country in a 30 day period.wink.png

wow, this is a huge change and I wonder why they did it? it benefits so many and hurts no one ( but the visa run companies) seems to logical for Thailand

will they soon extend the 30 day fly in to 45 or ( dreaming) 60 days which would eliminate the need for visas for most tourists and lose them tons of $$$$$

It makes working illegally on visa exempt status easier, which is exactly the reason why this rule was introduced in December 2008.

The simple fix is to limit stays to 180 days for visas such as this. Anything more than than 180 days is an unlikely tourist and one should of course get a proper tourist visa if staying that long.

I don't think it will hurt the visa companies much. In my case, I cut two of my stays in thailand short because I just didn't want the hassle of getting from Pattaya to Bangkok, flying out of country. Staying a night usually because the flights are set up to almost force that. Then flying back. I would have done a simple day drive land crossing visa run. My travel plans sometimes change, and this year, I am in Thailand right now. I got here in September. I did one land border crossing in Late October. Now I am scheduled to fly back to the USA on Nov 6. But I enjoyed Phuket, Karon Beach and Ao Nong so much, I now want to stay another month. If I was sure I could do a 30 land border visa run, Thailand would get my monies for 30 days more at least.

Huh? Did you say what I think you just said? Unlikely tourists need proper tourist visas? What about those guys like me that love taking 9 months out of the year running around to Cambodia, Laos, Burma (Ranong) and Malaysia. What could be more like a tourist than that ???

Perhaps you are refering to the people that retire here and never leave...trying to do short runs across the same border> Then I would agree. Many people take a year off at a time to travel..... That would sure put a damper on tourism here in Thailand ! They would lose tons of money on people like me.

No, that would not fix anything. A lot of people working this way will do that less than 180 days.

I just talked with a lady named Tanya at the following website. She guranteed that it is in effect for the G-7 countries effective Nov 1. Now, if true, that doesn't mean that all the provincial border crossings or officials are aware of it. The "law" seems to originate from a different branch of government (economic development versus Immigration) or something like that. So it might take a while for this to promulgate around. The Visa shops in Pattaya I called were not aware of it.

This visa company seems to use the Poipet Casino Resort. crossing location.

I am convinced enough such that tomorrow after I fly from Krabi up to BKK I plan to book with her. Her office is over near the Asoke BTS across from soi 15 off of sukhumvit.

Rather crucial for me to know the real position by the middle of next month. Flight availability (or rather lack of it) has me arriving in BKK on December 12th and departing on January 12th = 32 days.

I was planning on going to Laos via Nong Khai but this (and the timing) depends on visa validity. I had wanted to do this before Xmas but this will not work if I will only get a 15 day validity on re-entry.

Is there a better thread somewhere to check on this?

No better thread yet known. Nothing on the offical Thai websites. I checked several Thai embassy sites, and a few home country websites, Thai immigration site has no news. How encompassing and global that will be? can't say. Pattaya visa companies that go to those southern Cambodia crossings don't seem to be aware of it. The Laos and other Cambodia crosings? TBD.

I will post what I experience, as a few others have.

I just spoke with Key Visa and earlier with 1st class visa runs inside witherspoons. Both have not heard of any change to the 15 days land crossings and both had customers this week. Will wait for more news. Optimism crushed!

B4 last months yearly Extension, I Have been on 0 Visa s and some double TR Visa s... so have a number of Visa Run Companies saved on PC...

Just looked at 3 of them all say the same:

Update 1st November 2013, citizen from USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan will be allowed to stay 30 days if enter via a land border.

I wish the Pattaya folks had been aware of that. It would have saved me a little trouble but no big deal. I am flexible and changed my plans. It is working out OK now, since I went from Pattaya to Phuket and Krabi-Ao Nong and am now flying back to BKK. I will make the visa run from BKK and continue my wanderings from there.

Thanks

A whopping extra 15 days!!! Whipee

Sent from my ST27a using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

yeah, but it saves a full day and the cost of another less than exciting mini van riding. And depending where you are in the country, can make traveling a lot easier than flying out, possibly having to stay a night depending on the flight schedules and then flying back in. Not to mention getting up to DMK or BKK.
