webfact
Plodprasob calls Democrat MPs to pay for by-election expensesBANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said today that the government is asking the Election Commission to collect election expenses from the eight constituency MPs of the Democrat party who resigned from parliament membership.Plodprasop said that of the nine Democrat MPs who resigned, eight of them were constituency MPs while another was party-list MP.He said that since the Election Commission has to spend a lot of money to hold by-election in eight constituencies, therefore it should collect all expenses to be used to hold by-election in these constituencies from them.He said that these MPs have no good reason to support their resignation as they quit just to stage campaign against the government and therefore they should absorb the election expenses on their own.He said that election expenses for each MP was about 30 million baht and therefore all expenses for eight MP seats would need 240 million baht. Therefore the EC must collect all these expenses from the MPs who resigned. In addition, he said, the EC should also bar these MPs from running in the by-elections as their reasons to quit was unreasonable.Plodprasob also commented on the opposition’s call for civil disobedience by strikes and stopping tax payment saying they were not civilized action of people who considered themselves civilized. Instead, he said such civil obedience was unethical, immoral, and wrecking the society. He then called on the Democrats to resort to other means to attract more people to its protest. He reiterated that the prime minister would never dissolve the House of Representatives as called for by some certain group of people.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/plodprasob-calls-democrat-mps-pay-election-expenses/-- Thai PBS 2013-11-

webfact
9 Democrat MPs resign, Red Shirt leader challenges civil disobedienceBy English NewsBANGKOK, Nov 12 – Former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban and eight Democrat MPs officially tendered their resignations at Parliament today to lead a full-fledged demonstration and civil disobedience movement against the government. He said he and his colleagues will protest against the amnesty bill and fight for the country as ordinary Thai citizens, and will engage in the battle no matter how long it takes. The eight Democrat MPs who resigned as members of Parliament were Thaworn Senneam from Surat Thani, Sathit Wongnongtoey from Trang, listed MP Issara Somchai, Witthaya Kaewparadai from Nakhon Si Thammarat, Jumpol Julasai from Chumphon, and three Bangkok MPs – Puttipong Punnakan, Akkanat Prompan, Nattaphol Teepsuwan.Mr Suthep said the resignations of the nine Democrat MPs should be sufficient for their activity outside the parliamentary system while the remaining opposition MPs will continue their roles against the government in the Lower House.Deputy Commerce Minister Nattawut Saikua, a staunch Red Shirt leader, described the nine Democrats’ resignations as a political ploy to escalate the situation rather than a sacrifice. He urged the public to monitor the Democrats’ civil disobedience which includes a call for private corporations not to pay taxes to the state – a move which, Mr Nattawut admitted, will have an impact on Thailand’s economy and investors’ confidence.Mr Nattawut said the names of all Democrat-related companies should be revealed to enable Thai people to investigate if they will announce work stoppages and refusal to pay taxes – some of the civil disobedience retaliations declared by Mr Suthep.Mr Suthep announced to demonstrators at the Democracy Monument Monday night that employers should allow work stoppages on Nov 13-15 as part of their civil disobedience and enable their employees to join the political protests.“Let Sri Suban Farm Co which belongs to Mr Suthep and Bangkok Bank which belongs to Khunying Kalaya Soponpanich clearly declare work stoppages on Nov 13-15. Any company refusing to pay taxes will be legally dealt with,” said Mr Nattawut. He gave assurances that Red Shirt followers will not be led to confront with anti-government protesters though an assessment will be needed to determine if a permanent Red Shirt stage will be set up in Bangkok.“If the situation escalates, I’m ready to resign from the Cabinet to join people in protecting the government,” he said. The monitoring of people - sounds like something from Kampuchea, although that's not to surprising. Nattawut really should be in jail, as opposed to being allowed to spout his bile and untruths.
