RIP to the man involved (i don't know him)

i had 4 years in the LoS i saw a gun once used in a bar fight luckily it was only waived about, now i live in blight and a WPC was stabbed to death in blighty yesterday i think the LoS of smiles is still safe for westerner especailly tourists(a tourist woudn't be staying 5 km out of Pattaya).

my English mate was blinded by a motorbike gang in Rayong, the motorbike boys are dangerous and you have to watch out for them, but an english town on a weekend is just as dangerous with drunken louts causing damage and fights everywere.

I;d rather take my chances in the LoS than blighty but work forces otherwise.

I've just moved out of social housing in england as the flat i lived in had 6 windows smashed have you heard of things like that in the loS?

This murder is bad and i hope the culprits are apprehended shortly. overall Thailand is a great place to live and i will be back to enjoy!

'I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S GONE. IT'S SUCH A SHOCK'

Friends and family of a man gunned down in Thailand joined together to remember him at his funeral.

Steve Parkinson, 47, from Hessle, was killed by gunmen after a night out with a group of friends from Hull in the Thai beach resort of Pattaya.

His funeral was held at a Thai temple in Pattaya yesterday and his ashes were due to be flown back to Hull today by his sister, Gail.

Another ceremony will be held in the city.

Mr Parkinson's close friend, Gary Colby, 47, who flew out to Thailand with him about two years ago, paid tribute to him.

Mr Colby, a ship's captain, originally of Hessle, said: "He was just like a brother to me. I can't believe he's gone. Steve was a good friend of mine for a long, long time.

"We used to go out together to bars."

Mr Colby was away at sea on the day Mr Parkinson was killed.

Thai police are hunting four men who shot Mr Parkinson after chasing him on motorcycles.

Mr Parkinson was reported to have been travelling home on a motorbike about 3.20am on May 3 with a female friend.

He was hemmed in by two other motorbikes, both with two riders, and one of the riders shot at him twice.

Mr Parkinson tried to escape along the isolated road leading to his home from the centre of the resort, but more shots were fired and he was hit in the head twice and killed.

His female passenger, who was unharmed, was forced to hand over money. Reports said Mr Parkinson was robbed as he lay dying.

Mr Parkinson grew up in west Hull and had a stake in a shop in Newland Avenue.

The news of his death has shocked the expatriate community in the resort.

Speaking from Thailand, Mr Colby said: "We grew up together in Hessle Road and went to Francis Askew Primary School together.

"We lived next door to each other in Hessle and I lived a couple of doors down from him in Thailand. We had a brainwave and sold our houses to come over here to build beach huts two-and-a-half years ago.

"Steve and I and our friends owned a building complex with a swimming pool. It's a major shock.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before.

"There was a lot of ex-Hull people at his funeral. He was a very popular person."

A foreign office spokesman said: "Steven Parkinson's family have been informed and are being offered assistance by the British Consulate in Thailand.

"Police in Thailand are carrying out an investigation into his death. As yet no arrest has been made."

I am English and have lived in Thailand for many years in complete safety with my wife and young daughter..

Thailand in probably one of the safest countries on Earth to live in.

The formular for safe living here is very simple, keep your head down, don`t get involved in criminal activities, stay away from iffy people and most of all, abid the Laws of Thailand.

Many iffy Farangs are killed in Thailand every year.

Get involved, Break the rules, pay the price.

If this killing is linked to the incident two years ago - September 2004 - involving a said Steve Parkinson in Pattaya - a thwarted robbery in Soi Bua koa - then this is going to be a BIG story in the UK.

The UK press haven't forgotten the Samui murder of Katherine Horton by any means.

More bad press for Thailand I fear coming soon!

Well in Phuket we had recently a 79 year old Swiss lady who supposedly fell of a bike with 3 weels (could do all of 30km/hours) after having been in the ATM machine in Kamala. Not many people believe that it was a claimed accident as her handbag was emty of money. 3000 baht supposedly missing...

What a contradiction your statement is!!!!! If you are not speculating, I dont know or you dont know what that term means!!!

Some facts for you, I was out with Steve on the night he got murdered and he was with me on that afternoon as well, Steve told me the following, he had only just split with Siriporn on that day. It was a amicable split and she had left him, she was not thrown out as your statement implies. She wanted to give the relationship a break, Steve was even text messaging Siriporn to see if she was ok on that day, I saw these texts to her & from her, as Steve showed them to me during our conversation on this.

Police are well aware of these facts and the police are still investigating many leads. I have heard different rumours about why Steve was murdered, which I could mention, but will it help Steves case, NO.

Therefore I suggest if you know anything that is fact and could help the case, come forward and speak to the police officer dealing with the case his name is, Chusak his numbers are 038 221800 or 038 221801

Good news today 1st March, the police have arrested two of Thai men that were involved in Steves murder, they have both confessed to the crime and the police have arrest warrants issued for the other two culprits that are still on the run. During the press conference the photo ID's of all four culprits were shown, also shown was the 9mm firearm used in the robbery and the stolen mobile phone that belonged to the women that was on the back of Steves bike.

On questioning the police today, I asked what the motive had been for Steve's murder and it was stated by the police that under the questioning of the suspects, it was purely a robbery and they had only shot Steve because he would not stop. I also asked what type of sentence they would likely to recieve and it was stated that it would be a long time for them behind bars. I also asked would it be likely that they could pay there way out of the crime and be released into society again, it was stated no, not for a crime of this nature.

One of the men arrested today was just recently released from prison after serving time for drug related offences, hence my concern on what type of sentence the gang would be looking at!!!

Well I thought the trail was going cold and Steve was going to be last months news, but now I cant thank all the Police officers enough involved in the case, I would like to especially thank Police Sub-Lieutenant Choosak in his tenacity in helping to resolve the circumstances around Steve's murder and also for keeping us informed regularly when any new information came to light.

Cotty - just seems odd for a general robbery to end up like this. I still have nagging suspicions this was more than a robbery. (theives don't normally execute people)

So these lads weren't related to the previous incident that Steve was involved with??

Posted

Good news in an otherwise very sad case.

I would differ with the cop about the nature of the crime ensuring that they will be behind bars for a long time. The more likely reason is that these guys have no connections or pull that would help them avoid a long sentence or any sentence at all. Someone from Hi-So or politically connected would either never be charged or get off lightly. If anyone knows of any meaningful exceptions to that rule please let us know.

The police have not stated that these four men had been related to the gold chain robbery, but I will endeavour to find out more hopefully when they catch the other pair. I did ask what the motive for the murder was and they stated purely a robbery.

Good news today 1st March

Sorry to be pedantic, but shouldn't that read 1st of June ?

Sorry I stand corrected, 1st June 2006, but if you had a day like mine you might understand and I do like to state facts :o

Things are changing here nowadays.

It is not that uncommon here anymore that robberies end up in murder when intended victims show the slightest sign of resistence. :o

Yes this is true, but there was 4 of them, and I dare say had the upperhand without killing him. If it was just a robbery - just bloody senseless. :D

Yeps. Senseless is the right word.

Some of those kids just do not care one bit about the other's humanity. There's regular news here about taxi drivers being shot or stabbed for a few hundred lousy baht, gangfights ending with kids with cut off arms and hands, split skulls over nothing, just staring the wrong way in somebody's eyes.

I wish there would be better local news in the English language media. People here might be a little bit less careless when going around Thailand.

This is not the Land of Smile.

A few years ago in Pattaya i spend a few nights with the Sawang Boriboon, the local rescue volonteers. One incident was particularly interesting regarding the topic here. We waited at a gas station at Sukhumvit, a bunch of motorcycle racers cruised past us. On minute later a radio call came about a shooting. A few hundred meters down sukhumvit those kids simply shot at a few kids on two motorcycles coming out of a road. Three of them kids were shot and badly injured.

Just for ######ing fun they were shot.

There is an abundance of kids here in Thailand who have gone rotten to the core. No wonder, given the great example of morality our politicians and other figures of authority present, and the examplary social equality here... :o

But who knows? :o

At least they've got the bastards.

Yeah because all of the Hi-So / Politically connected Thai's are out on mopeds at night shooting people for pocket money.

Such a waste of a life, really these 4 chaps are going to prison for 20-30 years each for what? the chance to steal 5k baht from a farang!

It's an obvious hit/revenge act - he complied with their demands and they shot him 4x connected twice in the face. :D

He didn't comply with their demands Brit. Lokks like he tried to drive off and they started shooting.

produced a gun and ordered Mr. Parkinson to stop. He decided not to comply with the shooters instructions and the shooter expelled four shots.

According to the statements, "4 men approached the couple from BEHIND". The driver did not comply and when he drove off was SHOT 2 TIMES IN THE FACE. hmmmmmmm.......I guess the Thai bad guys have those new bullets that 'curve'...... :o

I still find it strange that these men were caught in the first place, 4 robbers, all masked, no one around to see them? Why would they confess?

Still think there were other reasons as to why and how they were caught. :o

My understanding is that these toe-rags were involved in a number of robberies around the Lake area and out on the Rayong Rd.
