Thai-Japanese Friendship Bridge to close for 46 days

BANGKOK, 13 November 2013 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has announced that the Thai-Japanese Friendship Bridge will be closed for maintenance for 46 days.

The bridge on Rama IV Road will be sealed off from November 16 to December 30. One lane will be opened to traffic during the renovation work.

Earlier the BMA carried out repair work on the surface of the Thai-Belgian Bridge, which runs across the Sathon-Rama 4 Intersection. The closures in May created severe traffic congestion in the area.

The Rama 8 bridge spanning the Chao Phraya River has also been closed for a safety inspection for one night.

Another bridge scheduled for closure is the Asoke-Petchaburi Intersection Bridge, where Asoke Montri Road meets Petchaburi Road.

"The bridge on Rama IV Road will be sealed off from November 16 to December 30. One lane will be opened to traffic during the renovation work."

Beat that for self-contradiction. It's totally shut but it's also half open. Well done, NNT.

A lot of people would also like to know what exactly this bridge is. It's presumably that elevated road or flyover, not a bridge at all, running over the Silom and Surawong intersections.

NNT is translating from the Thai, in which flyovers are called "bridges."

Yes is it that elevated flyer over as your decribed over those 2 intersections. Severe traffic problems the last 2 times it has been shut for repair/maintenance works. Better to take the MRT.

No need to try to be pedantic. And, in fact, you're wrong.

A flyover is a type of bridge, by definition.

I'm pretty sure the Thai-Japanese Friendship Bridge is the bridge/flyover that says "Thai-Japanese Friendship Bridge" on it, but you never know.
