We all wish we could make that kind of return. Will be interesting to see what members come up with. I am happy to average 5% over a 10 yr. period in a very well diversified portfolio, managed by professionals, not by myself. MS>

Better advice from the business forum.

Moved.

My suggestion would be to get the money out of Thailand and into a reputable market ASAP. Settle for a slower, more secure return. If you really feel you have to invest in a market where foreigners (and most Thais) are almost completely unprotected from scammers and fraudsters. The SET offers some potentially high returns. ( A friend, a couple of years ago doubled his 200,000 B investment in 2 years.). Property in some areas may offer a decent return (though I doubt of the order of 7%). don't listen to me too much though, I failed in business here after 7 amazing years!

What a waste of a post. moved to business forum. Like being sent to Siberia.

How about telling him to use some of it to get some proper financial advice from at least a couple of established and reputable advisory firms?

Well do you have any particular advisory firm in mind ?

i personally have not a good experience with stocks and shares.

in my opinion you can with stocks and shares just as easily loose as win...

And while at it, get said financial adviser to show you how wealthy he is

I do private mortgages for individuals here in Thailand short term 1-3 years and the return is a safe 12% and maximum 50% LTV and no foreclosure problems. PM for details.

I have A schwab brokerage account.I get between 4-5%. Um ya know the higher yield usually the riskier the investment is.Real estate can be nice, but it can go bad also like in 2008.

How do you figure? Lots of good topics/advice on what or what not to do/tips on pitfalls in business that will send you broke in the business forum.

Have you ever read through it?

The financial experts hang out here, not in the general forum. You will get more responses in general, but a bunch will just be troll posts.

he only wants 7%-10% anually try cuckoo land.

There are a few rules to sensible investing:

1. Don't stray from the mainstream investments.

2. Read Warren Buffett and some of the other really successful investors who have written about their methods.

3. Do extensive research yourself - it's too easy using Google. If something doesn't have a cast-iron positive track record, steer clear and go back to 1. above.

4. NEVER give your money to an independant "financial advisor" to invest on your behalf (you can pay agreed in advance, fixed fees for advice though)..

5. If you feel you must give your money to 4. above, then secure rock-solid personal sureties (including leins on the properties and other assetts) from everyone involved in the scheme (you'll need an expensive lawyer for that and probably several more to keep the first one honest)..

6. If anyone offers you a GUARANTEED return in excess of 5%pa on ANY type of investment and you're tempted to invest there, see a psychiatrist immediately.

  1. 17.50% guaranteed return under agreement.

Quarterly returns in Bank account of any choice preferably UK or US.

Personal involvement of investor is mandatory for a long term trust and binding.

Oh ye of little faith, why don't you PM the man and find out before

making smarty pants remarks?

If you want to sleep sound at night with no worry stick it in a online saving account in oz ie at Anz or Bankwest 4.30% no risk, access to money, safe as houses. Banks in oz are rock solid. The anz and nab saver account will keep renewing the rate every 4 months. Bankwest will not renew beyond 6 months which is stupid.

Open a restaurant with his wife and her family ;-)

I dunno - "Hawaii Bob" sounds trustworthy, and his avatar looks trustworthy... I guess if he lives in Phuket or Pattaya he must be trustworthy!

There is no such thing as high yield/low risk. I personally would run, not walk away from anyone promising a "safe 12%" return.

I invested B6 Million in the Thai Stock Exchange in September 2009, through my online broker, May Bank Kim Eng. In one year I made 14Million in profit bringing me up to B20 Million, an increase of 333%. In the last year I have earned B5million+, a return of 33% per year on my B15 million investment portfolio. Secret:

1. I steer well clear of so called financial advisors. Too many only cost you money or run off with it.

2. Do your research well, especially as regards political influences.

3. Invest in low risk stocks which have a low price compared to the valuation, preferably 20-30% or more upside. With a high dividend of around 7%. Advance Info has paid up 17% dividends

I consider that your safest investment now is BTS. It guarantees to pay a yearly increasing dividend of 6% then 7% and 8% in year three. On top of that the stock price is B9.20 and the current multi-broker consensus valuation is B12.30, an upside of 33%, that will probably be reached by December/January. The BTS stock will be listed on the M.S.C.I. on November 26th 2013. On top of that, there is a very strong possibility that BTS will shortly get the contracts for the extensions to their own green line, plus the Bangna to Suvarnabumi Airport light rail link and the Miniburi line. Additionally, BTS own a lot of land along the route of these lines on which they will develop condo projects which will make them a lot of money. In which case we can expect the price to rise quite a bit further. At least it will not fall and you will have your return of 7% minimum.

F.Y.I. I bought Advance Info at B45.00 in 2009 and sold at B272.00 in 2013, plus I received dividend between 7% and 17% per year from them. I bought BTS at B4.50 and now is at B9.20. Their dividend this year is 6% plus I have received 288,300 free warrants. Next year the dividend will be 7%. Despite the current demonstrations on the street, BTS shares have increased in value by 8% since they demos started. So if you had bought BTS shares with your money on 4th Nov you would have made 8% in 7 days.

Those are getting thin on the ground, if they ever were more than a dusting.

It is important to spread the funds around to various investments and finding those sort of returns is not easy in safe investments so here are a few ideas

Commerzbank has a 100% Capital Guarantee fund paying a dividend of 1.6% p.a plus participation in any rises in the fund it is invested in, so if the fund loses money at term you get 1.6% pa plus original capital back if it gains 7% original capital plus 8.6% profit, 5 year term I believe without checking

Litigation funding has become a big source of returns since the change in Champerty laws regarding 3rd party funding EasyQrops have one that is 100% Capital Guarantee and 9% pa, funds held in trust and litigation mainly against multi nationals and governments, these are normally 3 year term

Alternatively look for blue chip stocks that pay a good dividend and long term invest for that alone then you can chose to sell when the stock price is good, just use common sense when looking at companies, hopefully coming out of recession transport and shipping companies and big retailers will be a good long term buy, Maersk Tesco etc but check the divi's

As quantitative easing will almost certainly start to be withdrawn next year and interest rates will inevitably rise at some point short US Treasury Bonds, Proshares TBT ticker on Yahoo Finance will be a good bet for strong returns from an all time low they are up 50-60% this year just on talk of Easing being withdrawn so I'd expect good gains over the next few years with very little downside at this time

Just a few ideas feel free to contact me if you want more info on any of those

Caveat emptor...

Keep your money in a bank account.

Play around with some gold. A business associate of mine bought 3040 g gold when the gold dived below 19,000 Baht/1 Baht a few months back.

18900 x 200 Gold Baht = 3,780.000

He sold at 21,550 per Baht = 4,310.000 and made over 500,000 Baht within 10 days.

When I asked him why he did it, he told me about Marc Faber and he often follows him on the news.
