Ascott sathorn or viva garden residence?

On trip advisor viva garden gets ranked like number 44 out of 754 hotels in bkk while ascott gets ranked lower at 127 now that alone is actually good enough to choose viva and not to mention you get to add breakfast in and still comes out cheaper than ascott but here's a major problem for me and that is the location of viva vs that of ascott.

Ascott is much closer to the central area like soi tanniya is within walking distance and it's near silom so it's easy to visit the places of interest while viva garden is somewhere between on nut bts and bak chang bts area so i guess you need to take the bts or taxi to reach the central areas so i would like an opinion.

Should i choose ascott or viva? Ascott is also quite a good place. The pictures show it looks nice and everything just slightly pricier than viva but that's not a problem. I am just curious why ascott gets ranked so much lower than viva on TA. This shows that viva must have something in it or a few things that make it better than ascott.

What should i choose? Is there anything to see in the ON nut and surrouinding areas.

I have stayed as the Ascott several times and have always been very pleased with my stays there. It us actually a serviced residence so even the studio rooms are fitted out like a small apartment/condo. The one-bedroom suites are downright luxurious. The pool is nice and the onsite Italian resto is quite good as well. The location is good if doing business in the silom/sathorn CBD or tourist things in that area. There is also easy access to the river attractions, like Oriental Hotel or Rivercity, and it's not too far from Lumpini Park and the diplomatic district if wireless road. Traffic in the area can be hellacious but that's Bangkok. Sky train and MRT stations are walking distance but Thaniya would be a bit of a haul (especially for a girl coming back in high heels :)).

I don't know anything about the other hotel you mention but the Ascott is first rate...kinda surprised it scored so low in whatever site you were using but in a city like bangkok with so many good hotels, it's hard to stand out.

Trip Advisor is a good site...check out Agoda as well. I had a look at the Viva listing and I've seen that place but never stayed there. It is a newish property with what looks like a more hipster type ambiance. The Ascott is more like a first class business hotel. I don't know what your plans are for Bangkok but the viva is wayyyyy up there on Sukhumvit and not near any of the main tourist attractions. You will spend allot of frustrating time in taxis getting to and back to that hotel. If you're young, you may prefer Viva but if you want central location and business ambience Ascott is very nice. Plenty of places to eat near Ascott.

Hey thanks for this input.

I want a hotel somewhere in the central areas where it's easy to get to main attractions easily with minimal hassle. I checked around and noticed that both of these places had rooms of similar sizes and one had breakfast thrown in as well checked the rankings too and noticed how much higher one was. Knew that TA despite being one of the most visited sites for ppl travelling probably had the rankings well not skewed but probably not very reflective of what both places truely are so i decided to get another opinion on this forum.

It's still kind of amazing or surprising that viva could rank so much higher. I think the ppl there really liked to staff probably became buddies or something so they ranked it really well.

Also thanks for telling me about how remote the location of viva is cos let me tell you i have stayed in certain hotels of bkk that were located in places of bkk that are rather hard to describe to taxi drivers if you don't speak thai. Boy did they suck and i only booked those places just because of the lower prices even though i can stretch my budget out further. I'm kind of a newbie to bkk like once i hear a hotel or an apartment is in sukhumvit i think oh yeah it's near the central area where central world is forgetting that that isn't true at all and it's tough walking the cluttered streets.

Sukhumvit is one of the longest streets in the world so just saying a hotel is located there doesn't mean it's anywhere near the central area of Bangkok. The Viva probably throws in the breakfast so as to get people to stay there as the location is not so prime for those familiar with Bangkok. However, it will still be near a sky train station so getting to central Bangkok will not be too bad. The Ascott is part of a worldwide hotel/serviced apartment chain out of Singapore. I have stayed in many of their properties in Bangkok and am always pleased. They also have the Somerset and Citidines brands in Bangkok, with Somerset being one step down from Ascott and Citidines being their budget brand. If you just want a clean centrally located place to rest your head, I would also recommend the Citidines hotels in either suk. Soi 8 or 11. Both very central, clean, and cheap. The Somerset Park Suan Plu is in the same general area of the Ascott and is nice too and a bit cheaper.

Hey thanks for the additional information it really comes in handy for me. I didn't know the brand was from singapore.

I'll try to research more on it online.

Holy jesus there are 4 citadines located in areas so close to each other all on suk soi 8,11,16 and 23 i wonder why they name them all the same way? Probably to confuse new comers.

Like I said, the Citidines hotels are budget so no frills and the rooms are very small but very clean and cofy if all you need is a place to shower and sleep after a day of touring Bangkok. They are also centrally located and a good place to meet other youngish budget travelers if you like.

Somerset and Ascott are much more elevated in terms of room size and amenities but are 2-3x the cost of Citidines. However, my favorite bangkok hotel is The Davis on Sukhumvit soi 24. It is centrally located and has access to both Rama 4 and Sukhumvit Road, two if Bangkok's main arteries, is a shout walk from The Emporium Mall and Queen Sirikit Park, and a superior room in the main wing can be had for around B2000 a nite. Also, there is Au Bon Pain and Starbucks coffee shops in the lobby and a Carl's Jr and Lebanese restos just outside the door.

I know what you said. citadines are budget. I was just commenting on why did they name 4 hotels with the same name. A person non the wiser which includes taxi drivers, tuk tuk drivers might not know and assume there is only 1 hotel of that name. There is a budget chain of hotels in my home country called hotel 81 but they differentiate them with something else added in at the name so there's hotel 81 fuji 81 classic and so on.

This brand name is owned by capitland in singapore.
