Funny that hey, 90% secretly admit to not enjoying smoking, firstly then it aint a secret anymore is it, and secondly most smokers I know who have smoked for many years enjoy smoking and have no urge to quit, myself included. My opinion is your 90% is a load of tosh...IMO of course..

A lot worse smells and bad air to breathe in, in Pattaya than second hand cigarrette smoke..

Oh and just one last thing IMO of course, I find as do other fellow smoker freinds of mine, that ex smokers who have quit the habit to be the most annoying of the anti smoking brigade...even worse than born again Christians...

Me personally, I enjoy smoking and have no intention of quitting regardless of what the anti smoking brigade say, regardless of what the goverments of the world say, regardless of what doctors say. Here's a solution: let the bar and restaurant owners decide whether their establishment will be smoking or non-smoking, post the choice prominently on the entrance, and then enforce the rules with vigor.

People can then make their own choices as to whether or not to patronize a particular establishment.

That is fair. What irks me is when a place has no smoking signs then allow smoking. Drives me crazy.

But your idea is solid, post the sign, NO SMOKING ALLOWED or SMOKING PERMITTED, and the establishment enforces it, and people can decide where to spend their money. I personally would spend every baht in non-smoking establishments, but that's just me. But putting up signs then allowing it, bad for business. It makes me never come back to a place when that happens.

Stuffed if I know why the OP would go to Pattaya if he wants to avoid smokers - I loathe the habit with a passion, but given that this is a city where almost anything goes (for a price), you have to take the good with the bad. If I want to live in a nanny state, I'll park my aging carcass in Canberra and be done with it.

I don't think anyone wants a nanny state. But it would be nice to see the law enforced, which is no smoking inside. Not too much to ask really, considering it is the law.

Smoke away, it is your right to do so, but indoors really should be smoke free, if not for health, for the smell. As it was said above, it would be nice if places would post signs and stick to their guns, allowing or not allowing it. Then we could all go to the right places. That is the easiest solution since the law will never be enforced. Which I might add, at 2000b a pop, would make MUCH more money for the police than 200b no helmet tickets.

Not my headline,or my post. You might find reading some things in their entirety less embarrassing . I do have admit I get a kick out of a 40 year old smoker huffing and puffing his way up 3 or 4 flights of BTS stairs. It is times like those I question all the love the smokers on this tread profess their love of tobacco, do you enjoy the tightness in you chest when playing with your kids. Or greatly enhanced chance of lung cancer or heart disease? But it is not an addiction, you enjoy the relaxation cigarette smoking gives you. Nothing like having a cigarette after good meal or sex or before you brush your teeth in the morning. For me it was the shear enjoyment of having a smoke at 2AM because I happened to wake up. Then another before my feet hit the floor in the morning. Was I having the cigarette? or was it having me? And I stick by my statement that 90% of smokers want to quit.

And I stick by my post that your talking rubbish, but feel free to stick to your 90%, though I do say stick it up your butt, off to light one up now, just been to the gym and been for a swim and got the grandchild for a while, not suffering from any of your above mentioned ailments, way over 40 yrs old as well and feeling quite good, who knows in years to come what I'll feel like but I'm not worried about it.. I even enjoyed the sex last night and even had a cigarette before and after, washed down with a triple Jack D and coke..

Right their state of denial is amazing. They are confronted with science based facts and they disregard them. Their are three categories of smokers in relation to how they react:

1. Some are completely ignorant and un educated and completely oblivious to danger to health. ( don't think this applies to this forums members )

2. Some are in a complete state of denial , they don't even want to hear about the subject. If they do then its what is put out by big tobacco.

3 This group just does not care about their health at all, ( and you can see that !) l and of course the non smokers health too.

Groups 2&3 get obnoxious when confronted by a non smoker about their smoking in non smoking areas. Its as if the smoker is the one with the complaint !
