German tourist drowns off Phuket beach

PHUKET: A German tourist, who apparently thought he was stronger than he actually was, drowned off Patong Beach yesterday afternoon (November 17).

A witness told police that he had seen Klaus Bennewitz, 65, sunbathing and then going into the sea. He saw Mr Bennewitz go further and further out, jumping over waves, and bodysurfing them. Then Mr Bennewitz disappeared.

Beach rescue staff used a jet-ski to search for him, but by the time he was rescued he was already dead.

German tourist dies in Phuket surf
Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- A German man died at Patong Beach yesterday afternoon after being overwhelmed by the strong surf and two-meter-high waves.

Klaus Dieter Hermann, 76, was pulled from the surf at 1:40pm, Capt Nattaya Supanpong of the Patong Police confirmed to the Phuket Gazette.

“Lifeguards noticed Mr Hermann was swimming alone when he encountered difficulties in the big waves,” Capt Nattaya explained.

“When the lifeguards saw the waves were dragging him out into deeper water, one of them took a jet-ski out to help, but it was too late,” she said.

Mr Hermann’s body was taken to Patong Hospital to confirm the cause of death, she added.

This topic is mordant and profaning. This unlucky old German guy didn't think at all he is stronger than anything. He made mistake and was charged to own life. But this doesn't mean you can make fun of him.

You are a high experienced admin so this was so dumb from you. post-4641-1156693976.gif
