where to lathe a single part for a watch in BKK ?

My dearest watch, bought 10 years back.... dropped it, and a little pin which helps fasten the buckle went to watch heaven. Went to Omega, and as expected, need to buy a whole new titanium wrist band which is of course 12,000 baht.

If i had a mini lathe, could make the part myself in 15 mins, but i don't.

Does anyone know where can find a shop where can lathe a part ?

it looks like a little mushroom, about 2mm wide, and 5mm long.

thanks,

If it were me, I'd start in a different direction:

1) Take it to a watch repair guy who probably has cannibalized a zillion bands and has the spare widget in one of their 50 drawers of parts.

2) Head off the Chinatown, one of the 100's of kiosks that sell exact copies of the watch you're repairing. Buy an exact knockoff band for a couple hundred baht and cannibalize the part yourself.

The problem with parts that small is they are generally run in bulk on a CNC screw machine, and the cost to set up for just one piece would far exceed the 12,000 baht.

Agree entirely with 95% of the advice, but the tiniest diameter can be turned on a regular lathe, by going down to the required diameter in one cut. (Say from a 12mm bar). A few tries may be needed to get precision.

I worked in Africa and only had a lathe, my claim was/is that virtually every maching operation can be carried out on a lathe. It can become necessary to make some tools and fixtures.

Most of the machining was making parts for farmers, which were up to 100 years old. (Farmers and parts.) Read Ruth Gebbie "Next Year will be Better." and watch the BBC series with Fred Dibnah.

If you are going down Chinatown try the following shop in the soi between Yaowarat and Charoenkrung roads. If carries many spare parts and watchmaker equipment.

Kwang Heng Huat Watch Ltd

31-33-35 Padungdao Road

Samphanthavong

BKK

Coming from Hualamphong if you get to the China Princess Hotel junction (old name, not sure of new name) you have gone too far.

Saying that I was in the shop last week and they did not have the bracelet pin I wanted.

At Emporium shopping mall, downstairs, around the exit to the parking garage. Forgot the name. Great service, but don't buy your watch batteries from them.
