In April this year NASA had three smartphone satellites in space, two HTC Nexus One and an ASUS Nexus 4, to transmit photos and scientific data to NASA for a few days. In about five hours, an smartphone satellite will again be dispatched into space and we can watch the launch live on our computer screen. The NASA announcement quoted below does not mention the brand or model of the phone but I understand from a German-language publication that it is a phone running the Android 2.4 operating system and is expected to transmit data for two years.
