ttakata
Just my experience but my longest scooter battery lasted ~2 years. I think because the heat here destroys them. Estrada has the best post here by far, great info. I mentioned in other threads I had a friend with a brand new Honda Civic in LA and he drove it 18,000 miles (not kilos) before he knew he was supposed to change the oil. He must have had so many metal particles grinding away in that engine but his car never had a problem.. Not saying its a good idea to drive 18K before changes, but I think oils have definitely improved and 3K oil changes is an outdated standard. After the first 2 quick oil changes; I try to change my oil every 5000km or 1/year with synthetic in my scooters. I don't fear abrasion/metal particles, but fear the acids that supposedly build up in the oil from the combustion process. Not sure if that is a factual process, just what I've read about online. Its cheap insurance to do frequent oil changes. With proper care; I think the rest of the bike will fall apart before the engine gives out. When you see 40 year old Vespas all over Chinatown, I think a Click could last decades given proper maintenance.
