Thanks (and a couple of quick questions)

Featured Replies

hi all,

just a quick one to say thanks for all the info found here. I've not posted before as i've had no call to yet.

My girlfriend has just got her visit visa on her first attempt. I read loads here, carefully got all the evidence together and checked and checked again. It took bloody ages to do everything but was worth the effort, we got the visa approved two weeks after her appointment in BKK.

When we were doing it we discussed it and agreed on and applied for around 3 months starting mid jan. Now she's got the visa though and has seen it's valid starting now she wants to jump on the next plane. I think that we would be better off sticking to what we requested, do you think that would be better?

Next question, any recommendations on where to book flights? I've been looking but there seems to be a big difference on prices if flying bkk-london-bkk as opposed to the other way round which is what i'm normally looking for.

Thanks again.

Mate ... I'm glad you achieved a positive result and that the guys here (not me, I'm an Aussie), the Poms and the Mods were able to help you.

Sadly I don't think we'll be getting that at our end with the cricket David!

@dnrc, your girlfriends visa, congratulations by the way, is indeed valid for immediate travel, however if she decided to travel early there is a very remote chance that she might be asked to explain her change of travel plans at the UK Border, the IO can pull up the application if they are concerned.

Nothing wrong in a change of plans, peoples plans change all the time.

As for the price of flights, you have indeed stumbled across an anomaly that has been bugging people for ages, flights are always more expensive from Thailand than from the UK.

No real advice as to cheaper flights, maybe look at the pinned topics in the Travel Forum, look at all the airline websites or just use an agent, but coming up to Christmas and at short notice you might find it difficult to get a bargain flight, never say never though.

Hope your girlfriend enjoys her trip.

Compromise with either EVA Evergreen (a sort of super economy)or China Airways do business to Amsterdam and economy from there to Heathrow. At short notice these may both be quite pricey! Amsterdam Airport is quite confusing so may not be the best idea unless your girlfriend is confident. EVA are direct flights.

If you do bring travel forwards tell the truth! She could not wait to come over! Nothing wrong with enthusiasm and the likelihood of major problems on arrival are small!

How long did your girlfriend state that she would remain in the UK? Or did you mean three month stay starting mid-January?

If so, probably advisable to stick to three month stay and return sometime early March.

I'm not looking to cheap out guys, simply asking as prices for an equivalent flight but the other way round seem to be about 50% more.

I was just wondering if there was a better place to book where you don't get your pants pulled down.

We stated on the forms etc 3 months starting january. But she is currently in bangkok with visa in hand as of yesterday and now doesn't want to wait.

I've told her however we are better off sticking to what we requested originally.

She won't like the weather!
