Any preferences Mae Sai or Mae Sot?

Featured Replies

I have to go to one ofthese for a border run. The distance traveling isn't a lot different, so I am wondering which is the easiest crossing. I am looking at ease of crossing, time taken, scammers etc I believe a visa is available on arrival, but don't know if i can do an e-visa at either crossing. I also believe that the fee is 500 baht, are there any hidden charges I need to know about. Basically I am after advice on the crossing situation at both as I have never used either before, but have had to become used to the scamming etc in Cambodia.

Cheers in advance

It is 500 baht or a new crisp $10 bill.

I think both are about the same from what I understand. The big difference is transport to get to Mae Sot.

Speaking of Mae Sai...what is the current requirement to cross into the market area in Burma?

Last time we did it, did not have to do anything passport wise, basically got a day pass and the missus just left her ID with them I think from memory, but this was several years ago.

Nothing has changed, as far as I know.

There is a special thread about the crossing in the Chaing Rai forum section, you can find the thread here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/147481-mae-saitachilek-border-info/

I thought that they stopped taking US$10 a long time ago?

I tried it a few years ago and only 500 baht was accepted at that time.
