SIM Card Replacement

Featured Replies

Apologies if this question has been answered previously. I did search, but couldn't find the answer.

I have an 12call SIM. I have used this SIM for about five years now when I visit Thailand. The thing I like about the SIM is that I a topup extends it for one year. Which is great. I really don't want to loose this functionality. I also would like to keep this number for a number of reasons.

I recently purchased a Nexus4 phone which uses a "Micro Sim". I used a SIM cutter and cut the sim to size. But it will not work in my new phone because the contact layout is different from newer SIM's. Therefore it cannot be used in my new phone (but still works fine in my old phone).

Does anyone know if AIS would give (or sell) me a new SIM and transfer my number to this new SIM?

Thanks in advance.~
Paul

Yes, you can exchange your existing SIM, even if you've you've hacked it up, for a new micro-SIM at any AIS/Telewiz shop. They will map your old number to your new SIM.

Eventually you will have to transition to AWN, the new AIS 2100 MHz 3G subsidiary, as the AIS concession will end in 2015, you'd also have to transition if you want decent 3G (on 2100 MHz). But once you transition you will probably lose your cumulative 1 year validity, as service providers here are moving to 60 max/rolling validity based on usage.

My new iPhone 5s suddenly displayed a no sim card warning two weeks after I bought it. I couldn't replace it for a few days. I kept restarting the phone and it would work for awhile until it finally just stopped for good. Doing some research I learned that many people were experienced problems when moving over a sim card to a new phone. Fortunately just having AIS make a new sim solved the issue.
