First, this is not a personal matter i wish to discuss but a "general" matter. As I understand Thai Law any proof of income is not required for the marriage itself, but it is for "marriage visa". I have also found out that for English, American, Canadian or India citizen's its neither required. But according to the Swedish embassy, for Swedish it is required. Anyone have any additional info about this? It seems strange to me that Thailand would have other rules regarding this for just Swedes (and maybe Danes) then for other nationality's?

If using income to apply for a Marriage Extension the letter from your Embassy is required by everyone regardless of nationality.

Some Embassies require proof of income i.e. UK,

Some Embassies do not i.e. U.S.A

It is up to the Embassy what they require to issue.

The issue is explicitly marriage, not visa. Im trying to find out is the Swedish embassy is telling the truth or not when they claim that proof or income is required by Thai Law regarding explicitly the marriage.

As far as I know, income is not required to get married, but it will be required as evidence if you want a visa extention based on marriage at some point.

As said, Thai Law does not require any income to be shown or declared to get married, fact.

Is this some Swedish embassy requirement to get the 'Affirmation to Marry' paper?

To register your marriage at any amphur as a Swedish citizen you "officially" (alltough in reality it varies greatly) require the following,

1. Marriage License from the Swedish tax authority stating you are not married and stating by name the person you intend to marry.

(By Swedish law you are not allowed to marry in a foreign country without seeking approval)

2. A letter from the Swedish embassy stating the following,

*Proof of income that you earn atleast 40 000 baht/month

*Your adress in Sweden

*Signatures of 2 witnesses (whom cannot be relatives) stating you are a person of good character

This document must be translated into thai and certified by the foreign ministry of Thailand (translation company stamps are not enough)

3. Your swedish passport translated into thai and certified by the foreign ministry of Thailand (translation company stamps are not enough)

I registered my marriage this way and I can confirm that the staff at the Amphur did ask for all of these documents. The nai amphur (head of the amphur) also closely read through the document from the embassy and even asked me if this was truly my monthly income and not my yearly income before he signed the papers. Now with all this said I have heard that in Bang Rak in Bangkok it is supposedely very easy for foreigners to get married. I was married in Amphur Ban Chang where all of the above documents were required.

My wife and I married in Banglamung (Pattaya)

From me they wanted±

1 Birth certificate Translated and certified.

2 Copy of my passport.

3 Affirmation to marry from my embassy.

The embassy didnt ask for a proof of income

The amphur Banglamung didnt ask for a proof of income.

4 Two witnesses, but they took them from the office. We

did not know them.

Oh I forget, Im Dutch. So I speak about the Dutch Embassy.
