Was just reading that the last Volks Kombie is running off the line in Brazil Dec 20.They're making a Limited Ediyion for around 37000Us. My first car was a VW I t wasn'y a Beetle but a small 2 door with a 1500 cc enginelThat was about 49 years ago. My dad bought it for my birthday and then took it back a few minths later when he got angry. In 1973 I was living in Austraia and after my Holden died I bought a Beetle for 200 $.It was great took me everywhere Cost peanuts to run the battery always kept dying but that was no problem cuz it was so light I could push it myself and just hop in the seatlStarted first push every time I had lots of fun in that VW,When I left after 15 months sold it for 200$ I kinda miss it and always look and smile when a Beetle passes

Anyway anyone got any stories of your VW

Sold my Morris Minor convertible to buy a 1956 VW ,(in 1969) from that to a Rover 90, Pugeot 403, Austin Freeway, Kharman Ghia. All old. Fond memories of the VW as a student. ..but I suspect mine was 1100, the 1500 was later

Had a Golf II, 75 HP, 2 doors (I think the engine was 1450)

When I switched to a more modern car, the Golf II was 18 years old and still reached 185 Kph on highway, and cruising at approx 150 Kph for 7,5 l per 100 Km.

I have never ever sent it to the mechanic for repairs, only regular maintenance and replacement every now and then because of normal wear & tear.

never had one myself but a few mates did, 2 combies and a couple of beetles, shit we had some fun in those cars in the day(late 60's and early 70's). The old combies were good chic pullers too, scored well when we travelled around the coast, I had an eh panelvan and we used to take turns of using our cars on trips, great times were had by all.

Bought a 2nd hand '71 VW Camper, the Westphalia mod, in Vientiane in 1973, drove it there until May '75, then in Thailand up to Nov '76 when I shipped it back to the U.S. Nov '78 shipped it back to Bangkok and used it up to Aug '83, shipped it back to the U.S. again, where if finally died, RIP, in '89.

That was my intro to vans, really like sitting up above the traffic, now have a Toyota HiAce, not the Commuter.

Had a Type 2 pickup , single cab. Used for transporting trees cut down for firewood. Off course had to change the cam and instal a big-bore kit and twin-port heads etc. Never went any faster but...

I used to win beer at the legion when betting my dinky Euro pickup had a higher rating load capacity than a 1/2 ton! At 1000 kgs and the sides fold down!

Had VW's in the family since my youth. Traveled much of the country in our modified van as a family in the mid 60's quite a bit ahead of it's time, my father, with our help built quite a nice camper interior with a big trunk mounted on the front to carry cold food and ice, a small refrig and dining set inside with a large back bench seat all of which folded down into one big bed. It had some real problems going up hill fully loaded in Tennessee though when we traveled up that way. Big, long line of beeping horns behind us on the 2 lane roads.

We also had a Beetle my mom used to drive us to school in and when the street in front of the school used to flood from heavy rains and all the other mothers would get stuck in the high water, my mom would gun it and float across the big puddle to the other side, great fun and we made plenty of money pushing the other cars out of the puddle before and after school.

The video I posted in the Nitto 3K race thread was a beetle though I didn't own it. I've raced water cooled VW's for years and have still, standing class track records on several tracks stateside in VW's. I hope to get my old VCR tapes converted to digital in the near future to post some up. Maybe I can find a jpeg or 2 think I've already posted some in the past.

Here's a few different pics and different tracks, if it isn't obvious the GTI with the exception of the older jpeg of the sun rise all the others the leading VW with the flowing checkered flag was mine..

Anyone want to get a load of campervans into Thailand ? - or has it been thought of already ?

Wifes cousin has/had loads, vans beetles etc probably a few hundred, thought he had a business but it was just a ridiculous collection . Some farangs have just bought the 'business' from him.

They were in fashion here a few years back but not many people are interested now.

Over the years owned lots, 3 x beetle 1x in UK the other 2 in Holland.

In Germany had a Kleinlieferwagen the old Post Office van, and a 1977 Passat Estate, Mk 1 Golf diesel, mk2 Automatic, old 60s camper [owed that for 12 years used for holidays mostly], had 2 Transporters and a 411 estate and a fast back. Audi for past 6 years so still in the VW family, lots of other cars as well..

Something nice about the old camper bus, VW place by Bang Yai has a lot, silly prices for condition, so guess he has no intention to sell any.

Had a few in my younger days in the UK, early 90's.

1971 Cal Look Beetle

1973 1303 sunroof resto looker

1966 1300 resto-cal looker.

Great cars, easy to work on, reliable and look fantastic if done correctly.

Oh crap! You just reminded me of my Passat in 2000 just a few years before I went over to Thailand.
