Not a fan of 3D, but SFX cinema are only giving one option to watch the English version of the Hobbit- 3D. I know that eventually an English standard version will appear, hopefully. WHY? Does 3D generate more money?

I agree. I can't believe this 3D fad has lasted as long as it has. It does look like it's finally on it's way out though: "3-D box office receipts are taking a serious tumble these days, and audiences are increasingly opting for cheaper 2-D tickets. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/08/09/3d-movies-box-office/

Avatar was simply awesome in 3D, but that was a movie which utilized it perfectly, it's fantasy world designed specifically with the new 3D technology in mind. There was also the novelty factor of it being the first. But since then I have have not seen anything remotely interesting or enjoyable in 3D, and the worst thing is now filmmakers are adjusting their cinematography techniques to fit 3D, and you see this even in their 2D versions. I am noticing far to many long shots with things unnecessarily close to the camera's lens, things flying at the viewer, etc., and it's become very distracting. And it gives me a headache too.

Wasn't a fan of 3-D until I watched "Gravity" and have to say it was superb.

hobbit at jungceylon was/is in 3D only as well...

If u watching 3D movies in Bangkok in the Imax theatre, thats a complete different story of course and absolut amazing, also the sound there is "bombastic"!!

The regular 3D screening here in Phuket is a joke...

Yeah the IMAX in Bangkok is fantastic and I don't really mind the 3D (although I still prefer the 2D). The only movie I've seen in 3D where it added to the experience was Gravity - some shots are absolutely amazing and have taken advantage of the technology. The other key is that you have to sit towards the middle of the screen. If you are off to the side in a 3D film then it will add nothing to the experience except for annoyances.

I don't know why they only offer 3D movies down here in Phuket. I mean for Christ's sake we went to see Frozen last week and it was only offered in 3D. Sure, you can go to the first class theater and see it in 2D but that's 600 baht a ticket compared to 140...
