UPS - "Face" rears its ugly head again

My package was sent on the 5th from the USA. It arrived in Thailand 3 days later on the 8th according to the UPS tracking website. It was waiting to clear customs and I was sent a document to confirm what was in the package, get a copy of my passport, and so on.

The next day it was sent back out of Thailand to Hong Kong, then Singapore, then China, then back to Thailand on the 10th in the am.

The Thais say there was a problem with the plane and that my package never came to Thailand in the first place, despite the UPS site saying otherwise and the document I sent back to them of the same person I was speaking to verifying the package they received on the 8th. Instead of saying there was a mistake somewhere, and with the evidence of the document signed by that person and the UPS tracking site, they held onto their lie that the problem happened before Thailand and it was never here. Even with a signed and dated document from them on the 8th, and the UPS site proving it was here on the 8th, they still held onto the lie in order to save face. It was incredible. Funny, but incredible. I foolishly expected a little more from a global company, but instead I got the typical dek noi responses followed by a total communication shut down.

In the end, I suppose lost. The package still sits in Bangkok and they no longer answer my emails, and transfer my calls to nothing when I call. They are charging a daily holding fee in the meantime while they teach me a lesson about how important face is, even in the international corporate world, and that they are never, ever wrong. I expect I'll get my package from these children sometime this coming week, as my last conversation said the package should be to me by Wednesday, making it 8 total days of collecting dust and fees in Bangkok. blink.png

It's not a big deal really, but thought it was humorous and wanted to share.

I learnt early in the piece that mail in Thailand is a hit and miss proposition. I had new visa cards from my aussie bank(2) go missing(both speed post in packages), then when I got one(after it was sent to be signed for on arrival) the new pin codes(again 2) had been tampered with and the cover glued back down. These people must be stupid if they dont realize we will know they have opened our mail, when I reported this to the post office they just nodded their heads and agreed that a postal worker must have done it but would take no action, they just said that it would have been sellable so it was my fault for using the mail service to have them sentblink.png.

I've used ordinary mail, and the package, s small envelope, did never arrived.

If tracking states customs clearance or customs processing in bkk, it doesn't mean the actual parcel is there. Just that the documentation for it arrived in the bkk system. So sometimes you see us-bkk-hk-bkk. UPS asia hub is HK so packages go through there nearly always. The first bkk is only for customs purposes. The second time bkk is actual package arriving there first time.

Why still using these monkey companies ?

No choice. The place I bought from would only use Fed-Ex or UPS. Fed-Ex was double the price so I opted for UPS figuring they would both end up being part of shenanigans, so may as well go for the cheaper one.

That may be the case, but they had already sent me the documents, got a copy of my passport, and told me what day to expect my package. Then it went back out. Maybe they got the paperwork in advance before the shipment and jumped the gun?

Doesn't make much sense, but then again, nothing ever does. smile.png

I'll just be happy when it's here and out of their hands.

For whatever reason I find good 'ol USPS to have less problems when I have stuff sent from the US. I never seem to get the customs hold issues which seem endemic when thing come via Fedex, UPS or DHL
