Best subscription - unlimited internet for mobile phone

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi guys,

I'd like to get a real monthly subscription for my phone (not those pre-paid 7/11 cards) with unlimited internet and a decent amount of hours regarding phone calls (not that important really; I'm spending most of my time on internet anyway).

Which operator is offering the best deals ? How much shall I pay and what would I get for my money ?

I think that I've heard before that DTAC was offering X hours + unlimited internet access for 500 or so per month ? Is that about right ?

Anyway, thanks for your help! Take care wink.png

A lot will depend on your location(s), equipment, requirements.

Can you share any details? Phone make and model, location, minutes, GB, etc?

Most service providers have similar bundles, on both the pre-paid and post-paid side. It sounds like you want a post-paid, or contract, service?

Post-paid bundles may be cost-effective, assuming you use the minutes.

You may be able to "build your own" on the pre-paid side, so then you only pay for the voice minutes as you use them.

Locals seems to have a very LIMITED knowledge of the word "unlimited", in fact, you will find it's being over-used in many of the packages available which in reality are very limited, as the advertised speeds always end as soon as you reach the limit they impose you.

If you are using AIS 1-2-Call, there is a weekly package called Mao-Mao which only cost 69B weekly, the speed are 384Kbps Down and i think just 64Kbps Upload, which get reduced to 256Kbps once you consume your allowance.

I did try also a DTAC weekly connection for 232B a week, but there was almost no difference in performance.

To subscribe to Mao-Mao, just key in on your phone this code (AIS only): *777*731# (call button to send)

Make sure you have enough credit on your phone, it will be activated after few seconds.

Thanks guys :)

Yes the idea is to get some kind of contract for a Samsung Grand phone. 1 or 2 hours call would be enough and "unlimited" internet as well.

I'm not surprised the "unlimited" word is used for offers that are actually limited in terms of download / upload capacity... Operators in Thailand seem to be pretty agressive when it comes to sell and I've learnt not to believe a single word them say. Sad really...

Ok, I'll check out the links you gave me... Might give it a shot with that mao mao offer :)

Thanks again for your views guys ;)

Most mobile service providers throughout the world have similar fair-use policies re: mobile data caps, limits, speed limits once a cap is reached, or even stopping service once a cap is reached.

Really not unique to Thailand at all.

If anything fees are a bit on the low side here, and there are far too many service offerings. Which is probably a good thing for the consumer?

"Unlimited", which so many here seem to have hard time understanding, means that once you reach your cap you can continue to use mobile data, albeit at some lower speed. This is very, very handy. Further, once can often "power-up", but getting another 1 GB for 150 baht, or, in the case of pre-paid, cancelling and then re-subscribing. It's an entirely simple, straight-forward and easy to understand concept, but for some reason many find it incomprehensible, not sure why?

With only 60 - 120 minutes of talk-time I can't say a post-paid bundle would necessarily be cost-effective for the OP. Maybe best to pay 1 baht/min - which is pretty much the default rate on many promotions - and then just layer a 1/2/3/4/5 GB data plan on top of that?

In my opinion, if you are advertising in big letters something like "Unlimited 12Mbps internet", that's what you should get.

The "title" or let's said just the most visible part, should represent the true meaning of the whole thing, this little tricks to change to whatever else it might be, the original statement, is at the very least simply deceiving customer, lying, cheating,....should i carry on with it or you got it now?

It's absolutely not an excusable practice and should be punished accordingly, full stop.

Thanks for this info, is this different to the AIS *500*93# 49 baht for 1 day of 3g?
