Will bars shut down weekend prior to election? (25th + 26th Jan)

I'm supposed to be getting into Bangkok on the 25th and read somewhere that the weekend prior to the elections sale of alcohol will be prohibited across the county.

Can anyone here comment on if this is likely to happen? Also if this did happen does that mean Sukhumvit entertainment areas would close for the weekend?

Usually bars will be closed from 1800 the night before election day until 1800 on election days.

Brain fart! Should say midnight on election day, not 1800.

Isn't it also the case that when there's "early voting" the weekend before the election, alcohol sales are also prohibited?

If past elections are any guide to future or expected performance, then yes, with pre-polling the weekend before expect two consecutive "dry" weekends. I can't recall the exact hours, and there is some flexibility, but maybe 18:00 - midnight on Friday, through 22:00 - midnight on Sunday: Jan. (24), 25 & 26, and (Jan. 31), Feb. 1 & 2.

You can review old threads to get a feel for more history.

Some bars remotely near/in/associated with hotels may be open. For example, in Bangkok, on Sukhumvit Soi 4, the bars around the Rajah Hotel car-park may be allowed to open, as they did for recent high holy days like Visacha Bucha and Asarnha Bucha.
