repeater

I'm not sure the standard Linksys firmware has a pukka repeater function.

DD-WRT certainly does, and it works. So a re-flash with DD-WRT would likely do the trick, but do verify you have a compatible router version.

Bear in mind that the WRT54 has only one radio, so your maximum wireless throughput in repeat mode is halved :(

You appear to already have the DD-WRT firmware.

I suggest you go to the DD-WRT website and learn how to drive the beast, check you have the latest DD-WRT firmware loaded (but check the compatibility table for your hardware version).

The repeater function is a little finicky to set up and if you get it wrong you cannot log on to the router, the only solution is a hard reset and start from scratch sad.png

There is a tutorial on the website, if you follow it to the letter you should be good to go.

I'd also try to verify that the dd-wrt device is actually connected (login credentials verified). I usually do the following:

Break your troubleshooting into sections so you can verify what works. (ie: access dd-wrt Hardware, SSID the dd-wrt can see, Credential Acceptance...

note: it may be necessary to temporarily set the original Router's wireless security to NONE (not using WEP/WPA, etc) during trouble shooting.

1. Connect a known working PC to the dd-wrt's Ethernet port. Verify that you can view the web configuration page.

2. Verify that both devices have different IP addresses but are in the same subnet (eg, original router:192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0; dd-wrt repeater:192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0)

3. Find the dd)-wrt's MAC address. VERIFY if this MAC address appears in the dhcp or other 'connected devices' log of the Original Router you're trying to get the dd-wrt to connect to.

4. Using the Ethernet connected PC, attempt to connect to the web configuration page of the original Access Point/Router (192.168.1.1)

5. Try to connect, via Ethernet cable, to the Internet.

If these work, then disconnect the Ethernet cable and connect to the repeater SSID via WiFi.

6. Does WiFi from the repeater issue you a dhcp address in the working subnet?

7. Can you connect via repeater SSID to the dd-srt web configurator.

8. Can you connect via repeater SSID to the original Router web configurator? (is the dd-wrt connecting to the original router)

Otherwise, check for troubleshooting section in the dd-wrt web pages.
