- People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban declared that protesters would paralyse Bangkok traffics at least half a day on Sunday with simultaneous demonstrations around the capital.

Sorry Suthep, but Yingluck already beat you to paralysing Bangkok's traffic with her car buyer scheme.

Thai protesters march in bid to oust PM, but turnout low
BY AMY SAWITTA LEFEVRE

(Reuters) - Anti-government protesters marched in Bangkok on Thursday in a bid to force Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from office but their numbers appeared far smaller than earlier in the month, when she called a snap election to try to defuse the crisis.

For gods sake. Enough already! Put this nutcase in the slammer where he belongs and let the ordinary people of Bangkok enjoy their last Sunday before Christmas in peacebah.gif

i guess it will be interesting to see whether 1.7 million protesters will turn out - or 1.7 million bangkokians, wanting to beat him up because they can't go around their city on a holiday (and on the last weekend before christmas at that) because his group blocking traffic everywhere...:)

well, i think if he tried to do that on workday, the risk would be too great for him... at least he had the sense to warn bangkokians in advance, so that people still can get out on saturday or on sunday morning to buy their christmas presents...

maybe suthep just wants to find out what following he really still has. if really more then 1 - 1.5 million people people turn out, well, then i guess one could say that his movement does have some considerable support among the population still. but if in the end he should just succeed in blocking a few streets with a few tens of thousands of protesters, then he should better give it up...

Christmas in Thailand ??? Yes, that is a big event...when do they light the big Christmas tree? I have not heard many carolers this year, but I have some change in a bowl by the door, along with the fudge.

Don't blame Suthep alone. If that many people turn up again, it just goes to show how pissed off people are with the Shinawatra party that they're willing to just keep going out and protest.

Sorry but there have never turned up so many people at any political rally. The last big one which Suthep claimed had a million people had only +- 200 000, based on the area the protesters occupied and a density of 1 person per metre square. If he gets the same number he will be lucky as people is now starting to see his true colours. He has painted the Democratic party into such a corner that they could be destroyed by his actions (good article in todays Bangkok post). His proposed reforms are good but the way he wants it to happen are autocratic and will lead to a civil war.

even if i would estimate that it was maybe up to 400.000 protesters at the absolute peak, it is still a far cry away from 1 or 2 millions. yes, and basically i'd agree that there have to be reforms, but i would say that suthep surely isn't the ideal person to lead any reform movement. also, it looks like he is quite sucessfully squandering the chances of the democrat party (who, if they have any sense left, should contest any elections) even in bangkok, one of their most important voter bases, by probably annoying enough people, so that, even if they would not swing to the phuea thai party right away, maybe might vote for any other party, but not for the democrats any more. it will be hard enough for them anyway to try to win any election in the foreseeable future (as they never had been strong enough except in bangkok or in the south of thailand), even without suthep's mingling...

I'm sure that Yingluck is quaking in her boots and that she'll dutifully comply at the 6pm deadline and leave government house peacefully!

In the absence of that happening we will see more protests and marches from Suthep until he comes up with another "D" day that will guarantee his objectives are realized.

Maybe someone can paralyse Suthep instead. How about any nephews? Can't they step in North Korean style, his style?

Says a lot about you, if you wish for such things against the ONE man who has the balls to actually follow through and do as he says, the opposite of PTP. They have delivered nothing they promised; and everyone is fed up- all classes are taking part in this too. This is the path to topple PTP, who will only try to play top bidder in another vote buying scam, and leading people to believe its an 'election.' If you pay someone in BKK or the south of Thailand 20,000 or zero, they will still vote for the party more representative of a democracy than a modern feudalist PTP who represent only themselves, and feed on the backs of farmers as their base of support.

Suthep is becoming more and more a liability to the Democrat Party. I wonder at which point the Abhisit, et. al (sans Suthep) will come to realize that Suthep's hopeless quest is doomed and likely to have catastrophic impact on their political party? Or are Abhisit, et. al, just hoping against hope, that Suthep succeeds? Abhisit, in the mean while will let his buddy take on all the risk while he sits back and watch development from a very safe distance. hmmmmm....

I see all the newly minted red shirt lovers that have popped out of thin air are assassinating yet another thread.

Whilst I don't agree with all of what he is doing - I certainly do with some of it

Any government should be held accountable for lying, cheating and abusing democracy. The PTP hasn't been (yet)

Suthep is right that there needs to be reforms to prevent rogue politicians from raping the laws and rules of the land

If the the red shirt huggers that come on here can do is to make rude comments about Suthep instead of adding to the debate, then perhaps you should all find some nursery forum where you can vent your spleens to peiple of a similar mental age

Then it is very simple: Vote them out!!coffee1.gif

You don't win any elections by disturbing the life of people living in Bangkok. Apart from the demand from the protestleaders about getting rid of the Shinawatras, and their very undemocratic councel-idea, where is the vision for a new and better Thailand? Where is the plan for better education, better healthcare or social justice??

Healthcare in Thailand is excellent. What's your problem with it? And what the F is "social justice" other than a Marxist socialist "catch phrase".

The longer Suthep and his gang make manifestations, the more goes down the Thai Baht. Just look at the last 2 weeks.

Ummmmm..... I think the US' decision to pull the plug on QE has caused the beginnings of a retreat from THB-backed instruments as well as other currencies

Well i wish him luck. I would love to see the tables turn on him like he turned on the group three years ago.he deserves what ever happens to him. He has gone completely stark raving mad.

he will be happy as long as he gets his turn at the trough (regardless of how many people lose their lives, and how much devastation is caused to the economy and the country as a result)

i actually think most people have worked him out already but i'm scared it might be too late
