Buying a new car...

Featured Replies

Hey,

Looking to buy a Chev Sonic, its a good deal 15% down payment, with 60 months 0% interest and a years free insurance.. theyve FINALLY managed to get the paperwork correct at Chev however are now saying the car needs to be picked up before Dec 28th.. When we initially agreed on a date of 10th Jan.. They said today that it needs to be by 28th because of the promotion..

Am I right in thinking that at the start of the new year in Jan the car will technically be classed as a year old? We wanted to hold off collection until after the new year as a Thai friend had advised doing so for this reason... Can anybody clarify for me please?

In Thailand the year of the car is the date the blue book is issued. So if a free interest loan ends at a specific date then its your choice.

If it has not been registered already then when you pick it up on the 28th you will be on Red Plates. Your insurance should start from that date.

The blue book will not be issued until early next year. So the first registration will be year 2557.

Thanks for your replies, is the blue book like a UK log book?

This will be my first car in Thailand plus i'm a bit of a clueless female when it comes to these things so any help is appreciated...

Yes, the 'Blue Book' is the log book. If buying from a finance company they usually keep the book until you have finished paying. They should give you a copy.

OK thank you, thats fair enough that they would want to keep the blue book... I'll find out from the showroom what finance company it will be.
