The problem with any sort of hedge is that any small gap and you will have the dogs coming through. It is doable with enough effort. Also they take labor, because over time they will grow over on your neighbor's land and you will have to cut it back. I did like Pigeon Jake but with 7 strands. That is all I have on my farm as my fence is just shy of 1 Km. It doesn't slow down the guys coming through hunting birds or frogs at night and does nothing about dogs. If I really wanted to keep the dogs out, I would put 1 meter high 1 inch square wire all around, but that would cost around 30,000 baht or more, after you build the barbed wire fence. Even then if I wanted to discourage people, I would plant either moringa or pak cha ohm in the fence to make it difficult to pull away the wire. I don't actually try to keep the gathers out as long as things don't go missing. To really guarantee that I could keep people out would be too expensive to justify so I rely on building good relations especially with the neighbors so we look out for each other. I know others have had other experiences, but this has worked well for me.

Yup,maybe you are right mate.....ah well, back to the drawing board then.

What I have seen a couple of times ,catctus ,where you would get enough for 1 km, I would not know, but grown with a fence might work, doe's not grow to tall.

All this 7 strands of wire reminds me of a prison camp,, I use to do a lot of wire fencing, and only used 3 strands, could use 4 strands, here 1 at allmost ground leval for dogs. the art is geting the wire tight .like a bow string,if the wire is tight no one will get though it,next time you are in your home country ,look at barb wire fence, note how tight the wire is .

I know here in the LOS not easy due to the posts, the concreat posts are not very weight bearing ,and will snap , and must be in the ground 2 foot + to do any good, not 18 ins like here, and finding a way to fix the wire to the posts.

It is a problem I have with my cattle , I would love some tanalised wooden post( dream on ),but I am useing 2 strands of eletric fence with bamboo posts.

mine isnt so much to keep people out, i dont have a problem there (touch wood) it was dogs thats why i put the corrogated sheet round the botom and when the trees grow you wont see them but they will still be there doing there job,

the plastic net does stop snakes though as i was talking to mac this morning on skype and she said she found another snake body in the wire, some will say im cruel but ive got an 18month old daughter that likes to run about our place with her dog (was mine),,lol so ive got to try and stop them, they get there head through the plasic wire and a little of there body and get stuck cant go forward and cant go back,

ill take some better pics when im home on the 7th,

People will steal the steel posts.

then there are bolt cutterz for the wire....if they want it, they will come

FYI, Steel star pickets are available in Thailand, imported from Australia, but they are damn expensive.,
