Advice on getting to Siriraj Hospital from Suk 24 by Public transport

Next week I will be staying with a friend on Sukhumvit 24 overnight and the following morning I have an appointment at Siriraj Hospital in Thon Buri.

I could drive, but I am not familiar with the roads in that area and even with a GPS I would feel very stressed. I may also have parking problems at the hospital.

So I am thinking of taking the BTS to Wongwian Yai and catching a cab from there to the hospital.

Is the best way to go and can anyone give me an idea of how long the BTS journey and the taxi journey might take?

My appointment is at 9.45 a.m. so if I leave at around 7 a.m., will that allow plenty of time?

Many thanks,

Mobi

You could take the BTS to Saphan Taksin, then an orange flag express boat to Siriraj, at pier #10.

It will cost 42 baht for the BTS, and 15 baht for the boat.

Leaving at 7 should give you plenty of time.

That's great info. Thanks.

It usually takes about an hour from the time you board the bts to getting off at sirrirat pier. Often less. Very rarely ten minutes longer. I do that trip often to get to Thammasat which is across from sirrirat.

Thank you for all the good advice. I am very grateful.

Yes it is my first visit to Siriraj but my appointment is in the private wing at Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital, (SiPH) as It was the only way I could obtain a quick, guaranteed appointment with the top pancreas specialist. For follow-ups I may try to go the non-private route.

As far as I can see from my diagrammatic map, it is located North of the main hospital, next to Wat Amarintharam.

I have some experience of these huge government hospitals as I have previously been a patient at Rajavithi hospital where I had a heart valve replaced, but I have no doubt that Siriraj is even more formidable.
