and u base this on what ?

Retail price is high. This alone makes for "planting decisions" among Thai-Farmers. Anti cyclical planting behavior and it's long term benefits are unknown to Thai Farmers.

Therefore: Endless boom and bust cycles and nothing in between. All said, wait and see.

Cheers.

milk/dairy price is high, but i dont see more cows than usually in our area.

vs.

sugarcane price is lower than last year, but half the rice fields here turned into sugar, even those with access to water.

is this anti-cyclical enough behavior?

just saying...

If farmers are still waiting for the money for their rice fed into the the "Rice scheme", no wonder they wander off to alternative crops.

"Better to have a Sparrow in my hand than have a Dove on the roof".

Anything involving "Rice" in Thailand is removed from true supply/demand mechanisms.

while it is true that many waiting for rice money...

rice still have distinct advantage vs. many crops: stores pretty well, and it is kind a readily consumable.

sugarcane isnt such crop, nor rubber, etc.

corn is in the same league, maybe. but it wont take well the rainy season on most rice fields.
