Daffy D Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 As a present for myself bought a set of wireless headphones so I would not be restricted to cable length when watching movies or TV programs on the computer. The transmitter unit consists of a small plastic box about the size of half a matchbox (who remembers those?) with 3.5 mm Jack for the green audio socket on the front panel and a mini USB slot for charging the internal battery. The headphones also have an internal battery chargeable through computer USB or USB mains adaptor. The whole thing works by plugging the small jack into the front audio socket to get the sound transmitted to the headphones. All quite normal. Just by chance I plugged the transmitter unit via the USB charging cable into the computer USB slot and was still getting the sound through to the headphones. :-0 So to be clear the small audio jack was NOT plugged into the audio socket, the transmitter unit was only plugged into the computer USB slot and the audio was still transmitted to the headphones. Even stranger when I used the USB slot this way the audio to the desktop speakers cut out, as would normally happen when using the small audio jack connection. How come the USB is behaving like the audio jack plug? Is this normal?
Upnotover Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Normal I think, I have a set of (wired) USB headphones that work this way.
Aachen Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 It is a "USB Soundcard"... Via Systemsettings you normally can choose which to use for what. So: System tones to the speaker, other sound to usb...

I don't have a soundcard just use the motherboard audio sockets Cheers

Some USB audio devices will do this, but not all. Yours does and so you dont need to use the analogue lead to the light green socket. You can easily tell by looking at the playback devices in the sound applet of the Windows control panel.
Aachen Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 OK, daffy... Just replace sound card by sound device... Like kitten Kong explained.
Daffy D Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 So I learned something new - Thank you'all Just noticed the headset has a "hidden omni-directional microphone automatically picks up your voice with remarkable clarity.(works in USB mode only)". Got to try that out sometime http://www.rapoo.com/showdetails.aspx?P_No=H3070
