wym
That I'm a decent fellow they can vouch for me with the parents of my next potential partner fresh off the rice farm - not rich, not a sucker, but fair and will sincerely help her achieve her goals when her time with me is done, will leave her in better condition than I found her.

Theoutsider
I want them to know that I don't give a rats ass what they think about me.Exactly I am not that insecure that I have to seek acceptance or understanding from anyone Thai or none Thai, what you see is what you get....I can never quite figure out why some farangs in Thailand constantly have to keep seeking acceptance from the localsAll I can say to these people is that it doesn't matter how much you suck up to them, Thailand will not give you PR or ability to own land in your own name, you can be the biggest apologist in the country, and Thaier than Thai, but never going to become one of them, as much as you try, even if you do get PR or even a Thai pp So face up to it ladies What about your political views:-)
SailingHome
Seriously, though, having them read Thailand Fever so they know why we do things and believe many money tiings are WRONG compared to their beliefs... that helps a TON as then they (most of them) will respect it and discuss. David48
NOT MY BANK BALANCE !! Have TWO Bank Accounts. One for Show (small balance) ... the one you show the wife and ... One for Go ... the fun one, the 'sleep easy at night' one. The one that, if it all goes belly-up in Thailand, it gets you out of the situation you are in and into a better place.

Popular Post Jingthing
When you hand me a menu, I want you to go away for five minutes while I look at it and then come back, OK?!? Also at stores, I don't want you to follow me around closely when I am perusing the lubricants. This makes me feel uncomfortable and likely to leave the store without purchasing anything. When I ask for Thai food spicy, I want you to know I mean what I say. Not "not spicy at all" and not 10 times more spicy than you would ever serve a Thai asking for spicy just so y'all can have a good laugh. (I'll eat it anyway.) chubbychops
Dear Khun Somsri, The Thai people live in their own very private bubble. They will think of us whatever they want, not matter what we do. We will always be brushed off as the "falang", with the "falang" ways, we will always be dismissed. Perhaps because the Thai nation was never colonized that the Thai people were never introduced to another way of thinking, in Thailand it's the Thai-way or the highway. We do enjoy your country and thank you very much for allowing us to live here. I am saddened by the number of "tao hua nguuu" there are amongst us, but that is very much the business of the Thai female, to support her family, no matter how creepy the 'falang'. Sincerely, Khon Falang.

Popular Post fittobethaied
For the most part I could care less what the Thais think of me. I gave up trying to get to know the neighbors and establish relationships, so now I just live a life of alienation from the locals with the exception of my wife and immediate family members. I get tired of greeting the natives with a smile and having them turn their heads or look at me like I'm crazy. There's another side of me that craves the kind of acceptance that I had back in the States where there is a definite class distinction. I made an income in the top 5% of Americans and established a reputation of being a wise, fair and prudent businessman. We can learn something from everyone regardless of social status, but some of us older guys have traveled the world extensively and have spent years gaining knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Some of us even fought in a war called Vietnam to halt the threat of Communism coming to places like Thailand (at least at the time that's what we thought it was all about). So, in short, I worked my ass of to attain a certain level of recognition in the form of trust, respect and dignity within the community. Now, fast forward to 2010 when I retired to Thailand, and I have been made to feel inferior ever since. The Thais seem to be able to recognize their own HISO types, but when they look at us farangs they seem to lump us all into the same bowl of low lifes that they see running the red light districts and making fools of themselves. Sure, I did all that years ago in Manila, but at least I was a well-dressed respectable fool! I never hit a bar without being decked out in a double-breasted suit. All kidding aside, the Thais just don't seem to care who we are or who we were before coming here. I could make a long list of the reasons why I have become so critical of the Thais, but this is the one that really gets me in the gut. I came here expecting to live out my life in "paradise", but it has turned into my greatest nightmare. As Rodney Dangerfield used to say..."I just can't get no respect". Now, having said all that, I can crawl back into my shell and pretend that I don't really give a rat's ass once again. Popular Post sirchai
I want them to know that it's time to think for themselves when driving any vehicles, as I'm always the one who's gotta think for them to avoid an accident. I want them to know that I didn't come to Thailand, because I couldn't get a better paid job back home. I want them to know that I always had good looking girl friends and only married my wife, because we truly love each other. I want them to know that my wife was never a bar girl and that they could learn a lot from her. I want them to know that I love my stepson as my own biological son, and they should be aware that he'll hit anybody who makes a dumb comment. I want them to know that all their World Class Standard Schools should have the word "Third" before the word World. I want them to know that I always helped and will always help accident victims, when they stare at me and drive away, while people urgently need help. I want them to know that people in my country who just finished primary school, usually have more knowledge about all subjects than their uni graduates. I want them to know that I'll treat them with respect, if they respect my view of life and the decisions I'd made. I want them to know that I can also eat still alive shrimp, snakes, papaya salad and bugs, but prefer a Schnitzel Vienna style. I want them to know that I mostly understand when they're talking about me, as I wasn't there. I want them to know that there many other countries beside Thailand and Passah Farlang isn't just necessarily English. I want them to know that I''m not just asking my sister/brother what they'd eaten, when I talk to them on the phone after a long time. I want them to know that we're all same same, but different.- Edited January 8, 2014 by sirchai
Suradit69
I want them to know that I don't give a rats ass what they think about me. I expect the feeling is mutual. If you don't give a rat's ass, why are you hyperventilating and insistent that they know how you feel? The message you're sending is not the one you think it is ... quite the opposite. This paranoia about what complete strangers think about you, as well as the face-saving huffing & puffing, make it seem like someone is feeling unloved and on the verge of throwing a hissy fit just to prove to everyone that he doesn't care. Suradit69
What do you want Thai people to know about yourself? I expect 99.999% of the Thai population neither needs nor wants to know anything about me. If I wanted any Thai individuals to know something about me I'd tell them and work on the fairly safe assumption that most people have zero interest in me one way or the other. I seriously wonder if expats living in any other country in the world worry as much about what the local population thinks of them as do farangs in Thailand ... or more accurately, a handful of farang who keep obsessing about it on Thai Visa. It's like small children spending a week at summer camp, away from mom and dad for the first time, and realizing that not everyone adores them or thinks they're special or precocious or cute. Get over it. Edited January 8, 2014 by Suradit69
