Car and Bike License Time... Any last min advice?

Hi Guys,

Thought I would post my experience of my Car and Bike Licence Tests tomorrow in BKK. Luckily I will be going with a group of western colleagues and a Thai speaking organiser which has all been setup by my employer.

All I have been told to bring is:

"1. Passport with Non Immigration Visa
2. Work permit
3. Thai driver license (Old Thai driver license ,In case you want to re-new )
4. Medical certification( You just go to the clinic or the hospital and tell a doctor you need it for your Thai driving license.)
5. Driver’s license at your city (In case you want to get a new one)

( Both Original and photocopy , Please sign your name on every page )"

I have 2 photocopies and Originals of 1,2,4, and 5 (Car License - Card, Counterpart and International Driving Permit). I also took photocopies of the backs of the main documents and signed everything as well as 2 passport photos I would use back in the UK.

Hopefully this is everything I need. Any idea how long this process will take given I am going for both Car and Bike? Cost still 105 and 55 baht? Anything I need to revise?

Meeting at work at 7:30 so early start, wish me luck!

Ok so the advise I should have been given was be patient and.... Revise your theory!

So as I have a UK driving licence and an international Driving Permit the process of getting my Thai Car Licence was pretty straight forward. I just had to do the physical test of colour blindness, reaction time etc. the inky thing is how long you have to wait for each stage.

Now as I do not have a UK bike licence I was told I needed to do the E-test for road theory and then a bike test around the back. Although I never got that far as I failed the theory 2 times in one day so wasn't allowed another retest in the day. I got 22 out of 30 and needed 23!!!! Not happy and the 200 baht clearly in my hand as I passed back the electronic card for the test did not tempt her.

I did ask the Thai women from my work who organises the licence trip if I needed to revise anything and she didn't say I did so I was completely unprepared for it, also the wording in English is confusing to say the least. Apparently I have 90 days to retake it.

Does anyone know an online resource to practice my Thai road theory for the bike licence?

If you look in the car section, there is a pinned topic for obtaining licenses, perhaps look around in that area. I already had a U.S. license for car and motorcycle, so it was just a matter of doing the vision, reaction tests, etc. that you did. I got my 1 year Temporary, and then later on went back to get the 5 year license.

I thought the cost of the car DL was around THB 500, cos you get a credit card type now, this is what they charged me in Rayong when I renewed my 5 year last time round
