In my travels around the district I have seen tis pace several times and thought it a good idea.

A few days ago I stopped to take a couple of photos and the owner called out to me.

He wanted to show me around and was very proud of his farm.

He is growing limes and lemons and has sourced cuttings from all over the world, even Iceland.

He grafts the cuttings on to orange rootstock and tells me he is getting fruit from the trees in 4 to 5 months.

The set up :

The place was all paddy but instead of filling it he uses concrete tubs and grows the plants in potting mix with cow manure.

One of the tubs in his nursery :

He tells me this is the crop on a one year old lime tree :

A different type of lime from a different country, the size of your hand :

I think he said this was a Korean lemon :

He says he sends a sack of limes to the market every day and is now exporting.

He speaks English and Japanese and told me he returned his investment in 2 years and is willing to help anyone to get into the business.

I took the MRs to look and meet him and she liked him but his wife was very denigrating and superior, saying she considered all women who went with Farang to be bar girls and boasting about how much she made in a year.

Robby , I would love to have more information regarding this , feel free to PM me , in a few months I want to start something like this , just waiting for a break in contract now .

Great info BTW.

Maybe I don't take the Thai Bride with me .smile.png

Can you share some contact information?

I would like to visit his farm.

PM me W M J.

And anyone else who is interested

I don't have contact info as such, only know where it is.

Will answer tomorrow, off for a shower now

I grow tahiti limes, at least i have the plant but did'nt have any fruits yet. I also grow pomelo tubtim red siam the ruby red one that is considered the most sweet one of all. Costs 250-300 baht a piece on or-tor-kor market. Also i have a navel orange that should be able to fruit in BKK. I plan to graft the orange and lime on my pomelo tree but that is flowering now so i wait a while.

About lime's i don't see why i would pay extra for a foreign lime, i only use them as juice for cooking or on the fried rice. Actually i only see profit in special citrus variety's that are sweet, good navel oranges without pits or nice pomelo's. I just grow them for fun.

To make money i have a list of 20 other fruits that will grow in thailand and are not in the country yet. Thailand could grow much more other fruits and i bet the first one who brings something new and nice to the market will be able to sell a lot for a good price. For example the avocado, still costs 50-80 baht a piece in BKK imported from NZ or Australia while they also can be grown in Thailand. Just saw a nice video about an avocadotree in Borneo that fruits 2 times a year. The problem with avocado is that the Thai think they can't be grown in thailand and the ones that do grow them pick them to early and sell them, i also bought some of those and they were horrible, will never buy them again. I grow my own now.

In October/November the place is over run with avocado. Many different types. All ripe, or a few days away from ripeness. All for 30/40 Baht per Kilo.

No Tiger i have never been to Lanna. And last time to chiang mai was several years ago. I heard the avocado's are very cheap in Myanmar as well.

I ordered avocadotree's but will have to wait. I have plenty other fruits now so it's okay. I have jaboticaba, abiu, achacha, eugenia candolleana, bali salak, murang, chempedak and 20 others that i have never seen in thai shops/markets.

Of course you've been to Lanna. Chiang Mai is the Capitol.

Most of the avocados come from North (?) of Chiang Mai, grown by the hill tribes.

Maybe they are all imported from Burma, who knows. I know that they are "arroy maak" and cheap as chips.
As for all your other fruits.... We seem to have gone off topic, for which I humbly apologize to RobbyNZ.

Regards.

I see, okay i have been in Lanna then.

Today i got much fruit from a friend to celebrate chinese new year (he is chinese).

I got real orange mandarins (big ones) and they were great! Almost the same as the ones from Spain but they had many pits. Oh well you can't have all, TIT.

But why are those big mandarins not grown all over thailand? I admit i almost never buy citrus here because they always taste so bad but i guess it is possible to grow good variety's somewhere up north.

I grow navel orange myself but didn't have fruit yet. The seller said they will fruit in BKK but i first have to see it myself.

Is anybody else here growing a nice citrus?? Why all people in thailand always grow the same stuff? We are farang so we should change that habit. My pomelo tubtim siam (ruby red fleshed one) is holding 4 fruits at the moment, it flowered for the first time and i bought it last year.
