American citizens advised to stock up prior to the Bangkok Shutdown

BANGKOK: -- The US Embassy in Bangkok on Friday advised its nationals in Thailand to stockpile necessary items including food, water and medicine as well as keep mobile device charged in preparation for the Bangkok Shutdown, which is scheduled to start on Monday.

More than 400 schools close doors on Monday

BANGKOK: -- Hundreds of schools in Bangkok have cancelled classes for Monday as demonstrators under the leadership of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) are set to shut down the capital.


The Office of the Private Education Commission has announced that all 207 Bangkok-based schools under its supervision will suspend classes on Monday.

"After that, we will assess the situation on day-by-day basis," the office's secretary general Bundit Sriputtangul said Friday.

The Education Ministry will also close 245 of its Bangkok schools on Monday.

Top public health official faces probe for civil disobedience

BANGKOK: -- The permanent secretary of the Public Health Minister Dr Narong Sahamethapat is facing disciplinary probe after he announced civil disobedience and called on all public health officials to stop work and join the January 13 Occupy Bangkok protest.
