It's not only divers, it's people in all kinds of sports.

It's not only people in all kinds of sports, it's people in all walks of life.

They are everywhere.

WE are everywhere.

But then, we won't take over the world, as we are only 5-10% of the population.

Relax.

I have nothing against gay people or gay divers.

It's their prerogative and I respect it.

According to recent surveys 2 - 3 % is more realistic. Despite the huge media campaign it isn't that large a part of society. Diabetics are more common.

Which huge media campaign?

Well, in the U.S. there had been a historic gay activist push to promote the 1 in 10 thing.

In any case, how small or how large has become politicized at least in some countries.

It's tricky of course. How do you count gays? By those who self identity with gay as a an identity group like an ethnic group only, or a wider definition based on sex practices, etc.?

Gee, what a bummer. And there was I hoping that the "I have a gay friend" campaign would make more people gay.

I haven't heard figures as low as 2-3% though. It has always been 5-10% (I think closer to 5 than 10) in the last decades. Before the huge media campaign you have identified.

But hey, does the percentage matter? The fact is that gay people are in all walks of life, and now finally also sports people and managers can come out of the closet, a privilege reserved for artists (including hair dressers) in the past.

I agree it shouldn't matter. But in real life politics, sometimes things that shouldn't matter do matter. For the gay civil rights movement, there are political pros and cons for the numbers to be both smaller or bigger. It's a weird thing too as mentioned before it is and will always be a really difficult thing to define and measure!

Just goes to show that equal rights for gay people has a way to go yet. You'll know when equality has been reached when gay people no longer have to come "out"

I totally agree with you.

Don't hold your breath. In my view that's a utopian pipe dream.
