Good morning,

I just can't find this answer, although it was probably asked many times before. So I registered to ask.

I'm married to a Thai wife and have a Non-O double entry visa.

Enter before: May 3rd, 2014

1st entry: Nov 14th, 2013

1st entry valid until: Feb 11th, 2014

My understanding is, that I have to do a boarder run. My questions:

- do I have to leave / re-enter Thailand by air? or can I leave / re-enter by land, like going to Udon Thani and

cross the boarder to Vientiane?

- how long will I have to be out of Thailand? can I re-enter the same day (by land or air)?

- at re-entry will I get another 90 days starting the day of re-entry

- what is the meaning of extending the visa (mentioned on this forum?

could I go to Phuket immigration office after my 2nd 90days expired and get more days ?

Thanks,

James

Yes you meed to do a border run, on or before the 11th February, it can be a land border.

You will get another 90 days Permission to Stay stamp in your passport running from the date of your entry providing your entry is made on or before May 3rd.

You can go to Phuket Immigration and Extend your Permission to Stay stamp for one year if you are married to a Thai and can produce the correct paperwork including evidence of marriage, address and either 400,000 THB in the bank or 40,000 THB pcn income.

You cannot extend a visa but you can extend Extend your Permission to Stay .

If you are in Phuket then Malaysia or Burma are much closer borders, you have no need to go to Laos for a border run.

A double entry non-immigrant visa is an unusual beast, what does it say in the 'No of entry' box, top right of the sticker next to the fee? You may want to post an image of your visa (with personal details obscured) for clarification.

Assuming it does have a valid entry still available:-

  • You can do a run by land no problem
  • You can remain outside Thailand for as long as it takes to walk across the road from the entry desk to the exit desk of the other country (you must enter the other country, no turning around in no-mans-land).
  • You will get another 90 day period starting the day you re-enter

You can extend your permission to stay for a year if you meet the requirements (listed several times here), if you just need a short time you can get an extra 60 days to 'visit your wife'. Fee for any extension is 1,900 Baht.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Many thanks for the answers. All clear to me now.

To @Crossy It reads: No of Entry: 2

The reason is, that the consulate told me they can no longer issue multiple entry visas. Max they are allowed to grant is 2 entries. For multiple entries I would have to apply with the Thai Embassy. But I had already filed my paperwork with the consulate and really only need about 5 months this time. Therefore this was fine for me.

I just wanted to make sure I'll use it correctly. Reason for asking about Udon is, that I have never been that far north in Thailand. Since a land boarder run is possible this gives me the option to visit north Thailand stay there for a week or two and do the boarder run.

thanks,

James

You can choose to extend for one year.

From Police order 777/2551

2.18 In the case of a family member of a Thai(applicable only to parents, spouse, child, adopted child or child of his/her spouse):
Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 1 year at a time.
(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM)
(2) Proof of family relationship
(3) In the case of a spouse, the marital relationship shall be dejure (legitimate) and de facto;
(4) In the case of a child, adopted child or child of his/her spouse, the said person must not be married, must be living with the family, and must be less than 20 years of age; or
(5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year.
(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

You can extend for 60 days, this can be made with both your entries.

Extend first with 60 days, make your border run, receive 90 days that can be extended with another 60 days.
