Cannot install Windows 7 on Lenova H530

Recommended Posts

Have just purchased a Lenova H530. It comes with DOS pre installed.
In the BIOS setup I made FDD the start up drive so that I could install Windows 7.

However, with disk inserted in FDD it goes straight to DOS with C: showing.

Ok, so in DOS I type A: in the hope that I could access the FDD and run setup but A: not recognised.

Suggestions please on installing Windows.Cannot

Doesn't FDD stand for Floppy Disk Drive. You are trying to install Win 7 from a floppy drive? Doesn't Win 7 come on a DVD/CD versus floppy disks? I know my Win 7 came on a DVD. If you are installing Win 7 from a CD/DVD you need to boot from your Optical Disk Drive (a.k.a., CD/DVD drive).

Why would you make the Floppy Disc Drive the first to boot??

Which Floppy disc have you inserted??

Also you need to change the Boot Mode to Legacy.

FDD = CD/DVD I used wrong term...

Will not boot from Optical Disk Drive... Goes straight to DOS.

Do you have a genuine W7 DVD?

Is the optical drive a DVD drive (most are but one has to ask).

Does the optical drive light flash during the boot process (is the machine trying to read the DVD)?

You may see a 'Press any key to boot from CD' message, press any key.

You may score if you hit the 'boot menu' key when the startup screen appears, then choose CD/DVD drive from that list.

Fixed... The hard way.

Was able to remove the DOS program.. Restarted with Windows disk in drive... it ran Setup right away. Thanks to those that offered useful advice.
